Dalian Hotel Reviews
My first night it a Chinese hotel was indeed memorable. As I had forgotten my passport, I had to return to Jinshitan (60 kilometers away to retrive it. I caught the last train home and had to hire a taxi to get me back to Dalian. It was an extremely humous experience as the driver had never never been to Dalian, I spoke little Chinese and he spoke litle English. A trip that should have taken 45 minutes became a 2 hour ordeal. Going through red lights, cutting off semi-trailer trucks and veering at the last second onto exit ramps were just a few of the many exciting experiences that evening.
People in Dalian are very friendly. The city is very beautiful with its nice gardens and scenic spots. The city''s cleanliness was unbelievable when I first arrived. If you like urban cities, then Dalian is the best to visit
Dalian is a beautiful city and well worth a visit. However, the absence of good tourist info in English is an oversight. We could manage with our limited Mandarin and enjoyed meeting the people of Dalian. We also ate outside our hotel and found the people to be accomodating and friendly. This was aided by a good travellers phrase book.
A good day trip(outing) is to take the dbl decker buss #401 (RMB 1), from across the street/square, to Silver Mine Beach (buss terminal). It is a short bumpy ride. Even in October people were swimming/playing on the beaches (pebbles). The fresh air is great. (There is also a zoo/park in the area) Taking one of the trams (wooden) across town, gives one an good and memorable view/idea of Dalian.
