We visited the ostrich farm. The keeper was a wonderful man who told us many things abt the ostrich. We drove along desaru and went to the Chinese restaurant - Good Luck. The food was good and cheap, except for the long wait. They serve table by table, until the diners before you get your food, you need to wait. Most of the time was spent in the hotel pool where the children had a great time.

Visited the fruit farm and ostrich farm in Desaru. Greatly enjoyed ourselves, especially at the ostrich farm. Learnt a lot and the kids had their pictures taken on the ostrich.

Great food, excellent ambience, nice and big swimming pool, we recommend this place for a short week-end, however too quiet and empty during week days.Indoor and outdoor playground, staff very friendly and careful with kids! Watersports during the day or a visit to the closest town, Bandar Penawar, a very nice and romantic waterfront in the evening, great buffet dinner under the stars , some karaoke singing and a drink at the bar, small things that make a perfect escape from the crowded city.

Kedai Makanan Dan Minuman ''Jun'' located at small town Bandar Penawar - Two thumbs up!!! Chicken rice is great! Fragrant rice even better than the Hainanese Chicken Rice. Steam patin and sweet and sour talapia (fresh fish) are simply wonderful and delicious. Cheap and superb service.

Desaru is a nice place for relaxing with its white and sandy beaches. There is a fruit farm nearby and for those food lovers, they can choose to travel about 30km to a town called Sg. Rengit to enjoy the cheap seafood, especially the fresh lobsters!

Desaru Beach is only 98km / 11/2 hrs drive from Johore Baru Town. From Singapore, I would recommend a casual drive from 2nd Link, the roads condition is good and signs board well set-up and prominent. All the resort requirements, including swim wear and nice restaurants are available at the Pulai Desaru Beach. Everything is under one roof, there is no need for further travel when you are comfortably housed in the beautiful resort style room.

Please leave for the hotel before it gets real dark if you are not familar with pitch dark driving, when going to Sungei Ringgit area for seafood. If you are spending more than 1 night in Desaru & want to explore, it is recommended that you go to the ostrich farm, fruit farm and Sebana Cove (enjoy the view). They are all about 30 mins drive from the hotel.

I drove from Singapore to Desaru on Good Friday, hell of a jam at JB, then has to go all the way up almost to KT before heading down to Desaru. Would like to see the soonest completion of the E-W highway which would shorten the driving time to Desaru.

If you have a car, the Good Luck seafood restaurant at Sungei Renggit, half an hour drive away from hotel, is good and reasonably priced. It was closed on Monday when we were there, so do check it out first. Another cheap place for Nasi Padang is Bendar Penawar, about 5 mins from Desaru. There are about 2 coffee shops here but only one was opened during my visit. You can also stock up on supplies here. If time permits, you can also drive down to Tanjong Balau beach (try to avoid noon as place does not have much shade). The beach looks like a good place for children to explore.

The staff told us that there is good seafood at Sungai Rengit and we got there easily based on her directions and managed to get a good meal in one restaurant called Good Luck Restaurant. If you drive there, it is around 25 km away from hotel.

When we went there it was off-season so we just lazed by the pool. My advice if you''ll want to enjoy the sea and sea sports go during April to October. Btw for the adrenalin junkies you could try your hand at hang-gliding with a difference. Check out www.climbmax.org for more info.

Desaru is a nice place to visit. If you get bored at the beach or pool, you can just rent a bicycle and go on a ride to a number of interesting spots.

My inital thought of the beaches in Desaru to be overused and not as beauty. I was wrong. I have fun on the beach.

We got around in our own car, so no problem. The number of interesting spots in the area is limited. The Fruitfarms and the Kota Tinggi waterfalls are certainly worthwhile to visit.

1)Detail map for driving from Desaru to resort should be on the website. Got lost & had to call them for directions.

2)Coffeehouse food - expensive on the whole - Asian-spicy, oily; Japanese-OK. Sat BBQ-expensive. Chinese restaurant closed during our stay - any reason?

There is a variety of tours and marine spots available at the activities counter though i did not make use of the opportunity to participate in any, preferring to bask in the sun along the beach.

I do not know if there is a village or town nearby where guests can have dinner. Maybe the hotel can provide a shuttle service or something?

If you like local food, my suggestion is to eat out at the nearby quiet town of Bandar Penawar; a 3 minute drive. The food is inexpensive compared to the fine establishments in the resort. 50RM will get you a seafood dinner for 2.

But this is possible only if you have a vehicle. The road to the town is actually dimly lit. The hotel staff will gladly give you directions. There is no public transport to the town from the resort.

There is also a few mini mart, stalls selling local snacks and a few restaurants. I have my lunch there on my first day. (RM20 for my whole family.)Mbr>
There is also a go-kart track nearby. The track is bumpy and the machine actually needs to be replaced. But for RM30 for 15-20 minutes of some thrills, you should''nt complain. The person in charge was kind enough to let my 2 year old daughter pillion on my kart for a few laps when there is no other kart on the track.

My advice is that you should never stay more than 2 nights here. On my previous trip, I stay for a night only.
