Top Haikou Hotels

We went to the Underwaterworld and took the "submarine" to go to the reef. We also visited the Butterfly farm (both in Yalong Bay within 5 minutes drive from the Hotel). I can recommend both to families with kids.

Taxis can be expensive and fares should be negotiated beforehand. A standard fare from the airport to Yalong Bay, where we stayed, is RMB 100 and 110 back to the airport.<br> <br> Many people have aired their complaints online about the quality and price of the seafood restaurants in the area. We followed one recommendation and had the dinner buffet at the nearby Golden Palm resort. The food was good and the cost was RMB 98/person. It is offered on Friday and Saturday nights but may be available other times - we ate on a Wednesday night because a tour group had booked it and we were able to add our names to the list.

Hainan Island is a very interesting place and worth the visit. One very interesting place outside of Haikou is Boao and I highly recommend a visit there if you enjoy golf with a view. Two very nice and challenging golf courses to play on and it is only a little bit over an hour out of Haikou.
