The shopping in Melbourne is on a par with the best, I would rate it as a mini New York. A definite restaurant to visit is the Oyster bar at the Waterfront Casino. I ate there twice in a row.

Better stay away from Ackland street which is too rough. St. Kilda has nice restaurants in Fitzroy street, especially Cafe di Stasio.

We walked a lot, revisited St. Kilda and Botanic Gardens. Did spend an inordinate amount of time waiting for the free circular tram, and on several occasions after waiting for nearly 30 minutes walked to where we wanted to visit.

Visited too many places to list. The $26/week trolley/train/bus pass was an outstanding value. I was primarely there for the Aus open tennis tournament, but also visited many neighborhoods. As a music collector Melbourne is fabulous, many fine lp/cd shops. In general Melbourne is just a fantastic city to visit.

Melbourne is a fantastic friendly city - well worth a visit. Try the Rialto Tower for a bird''s eye view. Eat at the Taxi in Federation Square; and have a coffee in C&J''s down the arcade.

We walked a lot but trams were an option to travel around the city. Plenty of restaurants in the city, but our favourites were along the River Yarra, it was beautiful dining here at night.

The river cruise to see Blue penguins was lovely, and a nice meal and wine was provided on the boat if you could keep it down when it got a bit choppy out in the bay!! (I didn''t manage this and regretted drinking all that red wine!! Still it was a colourful evening!). The art gallery is worth a trip too, shopping is fantastic plenty of big name shops and bargains to be had. We didn''t have time to go to the market unfortunately but they say its very good.

Cheap internet access available from firefly travel centre. We also booked our coach to Sydney from here. Bus was very good with a film to watch, but don''t recommend the 12 hour journey at night (not comfortable to sleep even with the reclining seats).

The Melbourne Zoo is the best in the world and I highly recommend the Nudel Bar restaurant on Bourke Street.

Went strawberries picking at Sunny Ridge, Monington Peninsular. Good picking!! If you like Malaysian food, try Laksa King in Epsom Road, Ascot Vale. Good food, very authentic!!

Melbourne is a good place to go to. Tours with AAT Kings to Ocean Road and Puffing Billy are great. Being an Asian, food there is abundant and easily available. The Chinese Restaurants like Sharkfin, Kung Ming, Red Silk and Silverbird in China Town are good restaurants to go to. Besides, the Japanese restaurant next door has great varieties. Trams at Swanston Street, just in front of the hotel makes travelling around easy.

The Queen Victoria Market is located just within walking distance of the hotel and bargain shoppers should visit the market as clothing, opal, food and many other finds are sold in the market. I took a cab to the Crown Entertainment Complex for AU$6.00 and had dinner in the Waterfront seafood restaurant, supposedly a trendy restaurant; the food was excellent, I definitely recommend the pacific oysters as Australia is known for its oyster.

If staying here and hiring a car to visit the Melbourne city centre, beware of the Citylink motorway through the city centre. This seems to have been set up for residents, regular visitors and those in the know. It involves a prepaid fee, which can be paid or topped up at any Shell garage by credit card. But there are no toll pay stations, and a hefty fine will result if you use the Citylink without paying. A picture is taken of your vehicle reg when passing under a gantry, and action taken from there if the reg is not recognised.

The nearby cafe The Verge was excellent, with fabulous menu, including the best kangaroo I have experienced, an impressively stocked bar, and wonderful atmosphere. Tram stop almost at the door for easy daytime city exploration, and the city circle trams stop at 6 pm. so no noisy trams to keep us awake. Perfect! We never did get to eat at the Claypots restaurant, but I would have loved to. It is a tiny almost impossible to find little local haunt in St Kilda and they don''t take bookings, you just turn up and hope for the best. Well we didn''t get in, but one doesn''t need to be a rocket scientist to see that this place is fantastic. the aroma and the laid back friendly atmosphere was enough to make us beg for a table. We just couldn''t wait much longer for dinner so we ended up at Yefsi in Ackland St. What a great place to explore. Yefsi has a wonderfully exotic selection of Greek delicacies and we were not at all disappointed. Service, food and atmosphere were outstanding. And after dinner we wandered took in the sights and sounds (and maby patisseries) of Ackland Street. I want to go back.

If one would like to use a cab from the airport to the city, it gets to be quite expensive. One needs to make sure that one has a clear understanding with the cab driver as to how much extra is going to be charged for traveling on various toll roads and crossing various bridges before reaching the final goal in the city. Many cab drivers take advantage of this situation and may end up charging (asking) large sums of money.

Frequent tram services made the stay more tolerable. These were only a short walk away, but far enough to minimise the noise of passing traffic.

Best things to do in Melbourne is day trips to the Great Ocean Road or elsewhere.

Only stayed for two days as we came to see our son''s fashion collection but did go on a wine tour which your staff organised for us and it was most enjoyable. Would recommend the Red Orange restaurant as a great eating experience.
