Muscat Travellers Tales
Oman is the most fascinating and friendliest country. A car rental is a must, I highly recommend 4WD SUV. Roads are very good but some are unsurfaced. Off roading is the norm and a lot of fun!! A day trip to the oasis town of Nizwa should not be missed. The old fort is amazing. You can find beautiful local handcrafts at the souks along with beautiful silver/kanjeers (omani daggers) and bedouin jewelry. A day trip along the coast to Wadi shab and Tiwi is a must. stunning scenery. Beware of the Goat or Camel standing in the middle of the road! camping along the coast is popular with locals and tourists. Facilities are limited outside of Muscat. Take pleanty of bottled water and snacks. I was lucky to visit during the Muscat Festival being held at Qurum park. Wonderful display of Omani heritage and Bedouin life. I am planning my next visit.
