Sapa Travellers Tales
Take time just to hike a little around Sapa. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and it''s not necessary to go on an organised tour to see it. Take the Victoria Express train from Hanoi - it makes the journey bearable.
Lots of exciting excursions. Cat cat tour would be good as the first day hiking. You could go by yourselves but if you ask a guest house, the tour is $3 per person and the guide is a H''mon. The excursions organzed by Victoria is all expensive. (A half-day tour is $20 per person.) However, they have a good English guide, and use Mercedes and you''ll have a sense of security even on the rough road on a cliff.
We loved Sapa and recommend everyone who goes to Vietnam to travel there. We went with the tours at the hotel and we were very happy. Thought that Green Bamboo Hotel had a good restaurant but we liked just using the hotel. Was stressed getting there though. We booked on the train (Victoria express) and we were not met at the station as told and only just managed to get through to get on the train on time.
Visit the colourful markets: Bac Ha and Coc Ly.
