Seaport Restaurant at "JiaLingNa" shopping mall which is just behind the hotel (10min walk) is a must. Better food than any of those highly acclaimed restaurants in Hong Kong. Ambiance in Seaport is very good, staff is polite and helpful, price is very reasonable too.

At the Lo Wu Shopping center, top floor, great "Yam-cha" (Dim sum restaurants) can be found at very reasonable prices. And yes, remember to always bargain during your shopping spree at the shopping center. ENJOY : )

To visit the Spendid China or Window of the World take Bus No 223, you have to cross the road (Shennen Ave), use the subway about 50 yards to the left of the hotel (fare approx 4 HKD/person). All local transport accept HKD. Except at Lo Wu station all shopping malls accept credit cards but not HKD.

The Ding Tai Feng (dim sum restaurant-named 1997 Time magazine New York''s top 10 restaurants in the world) in Shenzhen is tucked away at a corner in Dong Men- the shopping district in shenzhen town, away from the congested but great shopping at Luo Hu Railway complex. Ding Tai Feng here is at an absolutely reasonable cost. What a find! What a thrill! Authentic xiao long baos. The red bean paste xiao long bao as a dessert is a must try.

My visits to Shenzhen have been limited to very intense shopping excursions at the Lowu Centre - a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Lowu is a great place to have clothes tailored at bargain prices. Bring your own favourite pieces to be copied, take along some clear pictures of what you''d like or flip through the hundreds of magazines the tailors have at their stall. There''s also a huge fabric market on the fifth floor so once you know what you''d like made, you can have fun choosing material. Be prepared to bargain! Massage is another service offered at Lowu and you generally need one after a few hours shopping. I''d recommend Jian Fu Mei Massage Centre on the fourth floor. Then there are all the shops selling bags, shoes, jewellery and anything else you can think of. The day will be over before you know it and you''ll be glad the hotel is only a short walk away.

Guang Shen hotel is located in the middle of the shopping area. Dong Men Road is just 300m from the hotel and you can find a whole stretch of fashion goods from clothing to shoes. Depending on the season, you could get good bargain for those "outdated" clothing. Meaning you get good bargain for winter clothing from start of spring and vice versa.

There is a really good Japanese restauarant across the street. just to the right as you face the Sunnyside Hotel - and there is an excellent Chinese fish/seafood restaurant right next to it called Mai''s. On the other street, again directly across from the hotel, to the left of Seibu are two excellent and clean Chinese restauarants. And there is always Seibu if you want to buy some real designer clothes, as opposed to the knock-offs at Lao Hu (next to Lo Wu). The best way to get to Lao Hu is to ask the taxi driver to take you to the Shangri-La Hotel...it is a slightly different route that gets you actually closer and in a shorter time/lesser cost. The old days of bargaining down to half of the asking price are gone - now you have to get about 2/3rds off ie. 150 RMB down to 50-60.

We went to Window of the World which is about half an hour drive from our hotel. It was good but not that good. You can pass it. The Dong Men market will be useful for you if you know what you are looking for, otherwise do not bother because there are so many shops to confuse you. We missed Chinese Folk Culture Village which is located near Window of the World though. We think that one might be worth seeing.

I have a pleasant time visiting Shen Zhen. I found shopping a pleasant experience getting value for money goods. What impresses me most is effiency of the public service. On the second day I went for breakfast at around 8.30am at a restaurant about 300 metres from the hotel. When I returned at about 8.55am I saw an overturned Audi A6 at the center of the road after hitting the road center metal railing damaging a portion it. What amazed me was that within that short time the ambulance had already taken the driver of the vehicle away, the surveyor was taking pictures of the accident scene, the public road service vehicle was already there reparing the damage portion of the center divider while a tow vehicle was there with crane in the process of turning the overturned accident vehicle right side up. All these were going on simultaneously. After I went into the hotel and came out again after 15 minutes later the accident vehicle was gone, center divider was repaired every was normal as if nothing had happened! Very impressive public service.

To find fake brand names go to Luohu Shopping Centre just beside Luohu Train Station. To go to HK the fastest? or at least the easiest way is with a bus service offered from most of the hotels.

Ignore guide books advice about travelling in China and Shenzhen in particular. The city is changing fast, has been doing so for 10 years, and now has some great parks and leisure areas. And as always, make certain taxis use the ''meter''.

The popular LuoHu Commercial Centre is within walking distance from the Century Plaza Hotel. Shopping at Dongmen and HuaQiangBei (North) Road is fantastic. The Coach Station which is located at the basement of LuoHu Commercial Centre provides travel to cities in Guangdong, the ticket office is at the 1st level of LuoHu Commercial Centre.

Travelling to Shenzen was great fun, entered Shenzen by KCR via Lo-Wu railway station finished immigration and viola! into Shenzen. There were no charges to pay at the immigration. Once in Lo-Wu, there was a long line whereon I hired a local unlicenced cab (not recomended! ) cost me RMB 50.00 for a drop till Novotel Water Gate. Be aware you must have a chinese translation of the destination as the only reply or response you get for a english question would be a wide grin and nothing else!!

Travelling from Shenzen to anywhere else nearby like Donguuan, Zhonshan, etc. requires absolute skills unless you are lucky to have the destination neatly written in Chinese. Finding a company or address if you have the details in chinese is further easy as every cab driver carries a mobile phone , they would be more than glad to call the office or location at a nearby place and take you there. Be prepared in full for a detailed geography study etc. if on a business trip, it is not a breeze as in Hong Kong. All time tables and destinations start getting more and more in Chinese as you get deeper and deeper! The best liner on the highway (between Donguan and Shenzen). WE WISH YOU A SAFE TRIP!!!

The location of the hotel is very good if you like going shopping. It is walking distance from Dong Man Lu the shopping street. There are a lot of bargain clothes and bags if like to haggle, always ask for half the price when you haggle thats alway the real price. Great shopping at MOI department store.

Must go: DongMen Shopping District, Golden Times-a local karoke, disco and pub with a Vegas touch. HuaQiang North-Along this street, you''ll find, Electronic World, Women & Men''s World, Children World. Recreational Centre (massage parlour) don''t think that massage parlours only for men. There are those which are suitable for famliy too. Approximate price: RMB 78 for 2 hrs of massage with sauna/steambath/drinks.

Disco: FACE, COLOURS, MICHELLE House. Restaurants: a lot of them are pretty good. go for the big ones if you''re not used to dining in small shops. Prices are reasonable.

Shenzhen is already China''s fourth city and will be world famous soon. It is an exciting place to be but is very challenging for someone with no Chinese language or Chinese friends. Shopping is cheap and very extensive, with good quality. The nearby park, Litchee Park, is developing into a real credit to the city and stands comparison with some of Guangzhou''s parks. Once the Metro is finished, Shenzhen will be easier for the tourist, with fast access to the theme parks in the west of the city (well worth a visit).

Location is very convenient, walking distance to the train station and Luohu Checkpoint fronting the Hong Kong borders. Vehicles traffic is quite busy but also very easy to catch public tranport. Taxis are aplenty around the vicinity. Do check the rate before boarding. The public security in Shenzhen had improved nowadays.
