On the other hand, the staff were not as friendly and helpful at some other mid-level places in the area, for instance the [other hotel] (where I believe I paid in the mid-40s USD). I was unable to charge the restaurant bill to my room or to buy RMB with US travelers checks, and the place had more than its share of PRC officious authoritarian creepiness.
