Take the Airport Express from and to the airport. Especially for 1/2 travellers HKD180 for return fare. Airport to Hong Kong in 23 minutes flat. Could a taxi get you there that fast? Ocean Park is a "must see". Set aside at least 4 hours for the visit. Got some good silk neckties at Stanley market. Use the public transport (buses and trains) as far as possible. Available at short intevals, quick to destinations and air-conditioned. No need to splurge on taxis. "Lord Stanley at the Curry Pot" behind Stanley Market and "Bombay Dreams" at Windham Road can be tried if you are partial to Indian food. Shopping at Watsons and Wellcome stores recommended - Variety under one roof, if you''re pressed for time.

We did all the usual tourist attractions but what stood out on this trip was the free Junk Boat ride provided by the Hong Kong Tourist Board (read details about it on their website as well as how to get ticket for this). The boat ride last one hour around the harbor. We took it from the Kowloon public pier and docked on the Hong Kong island Central pier. It was great and my whole family loved it.

Use the Airport Express & taxi to reach the hotel. If you have the time to spare get out to Tap Mun Chau - trains to Sha Tin, bus to Sai Kung, bus to Mong Shek pier & ferry to Tap Mun. Chance to see another side of HK & enjoy some solitude - set aside a day.

Hong Kong has anything and everything. My personal recommendations as a single guy usually traveling alone is either Wan Chai or Lan Kwai Fong. When in Wan Chai make sure you find both ''Neptune II'' and ''Dusk till Dawn''. The best Thai food outside of Thailand can also be found in Wan Chai - it is called Family Thai and is diagonally across the street from the Wharney next to Chili Thai.

Public transport in Hong Kong is excellent, very cheap and buses are every few minutes. Ferries also excellent value. Places to visit: Macau, Lantau, Lamma and Chung Chau, Stanely Market, Cat Street. We ate at the Bohemian Lounge, Old Bailey Street, one night (live jazz and a 4 course meal for 220 HK dollars - excellent). Nepal on Staunton street also very good. We also went to Life (off the escalator) lovely vegetarian food, but expensive and not brilliant service.

Kowloon is an interesting place full of tourist attractions - Bird and Flower Market, Night Market, Taoist Temple. I got a bit lost when I went to explore Bird and Flower Market but I found it eventually, and it really is worth seeing. Night Market is a perfect place if you''re hungry in the evening or look for a souvenir, and the range is impressive - you can choose from ''antiquities'', mad toys for kids, CDs, clothes...On the way back to wherever you''re going next you can take the airport bus, much cheaper than the train.

Good choice of restaurants & bars in the Mid Levels area, just down from the Bishop Lei (Nepal & Jaspers & Peak Cafe for example). Close to Lan Kwai Fong for nightlife and bars. Close to Central for shopping and MTR link!

Hong Kong is a fascinating city and should be visited by people visiting the East. It is different from Beijing and other cities in China and Taiwan. A tour that I took was the city tour, but according to me not really worth it, because it is easy to get to Victoria Peak with the tram and more spectacular also than the bus tour. Stanley Market was included, but not really worth seeing or rather spending a lot of money on by going on a tour. I liked to walk around and the ferry across the harbour is wonderful and cheap. Lots to see by walking, and the city blocks are not so big, therefore you can go a long way on the map, without noticing it by getting tired!

Hong Kong (Central) side is more upscale, full of antiseptic shopping malls selling top-end products. Kowloon is quite different. It is gritty, full of hawkers selling fake watches, suits etc. 5-star hotels rub shoulders with run down buildings. I`ve never seen a place quite like it. The food in Hong Kong is wonderful, wherever you go. After living in Japan for 3 years, it was great to hear so much English. Communication was never really a problem during our trip.

There is not enough room here to give our impression of Hong Kong. Our first visit took us to Stanley on our second day; a definite "must see" village. Forget the Market if you can, and just take in the Mediterranean feel of the views and great reastaurants. El Cid was well worth a visit. Sai Kung in the New Territories is another great sea-side town to visit. Lantau Island with the amazing Buddha and general views should not be missed. Don''t leave without visiting The Peak - shame it''s so hazy most of the time - and try a Dim Sum breakfast or bruch in Central''s City Hall. So many places so little time.

A21 bus gets you there for HK$33 from airport. Drops you almost at door! Good place to go is Hong Kong side, up on the Peak. Don''t just visit the Peak Tourist trap but walk around the peak - takes an hour but very quiet with excellent views all around the island. You walk right arould the top of the Island in an hour and see all there is to see. Surprisingly quiet!

Recommend Jaspas in SoHo as a place to eat; and SoHo Spice. Hollywood Rd is great fun - Archangel Antiques is a must.

Hong Kong - The Japanese restaurant at the Royal Garden Hotel in TST East is a sheer delight. The managers Larry and Gary and will make you feel right at home and provide an entertaining evening. Please say "hello" and "mama mia" for me when you are there!

Watch out for Taxi''s to the Airport! They try to charge you for tolls that do not exist! Price should be meter price Plus $5HK per each luggage (in the trunk!) plus $10HK for the ONE toll to airport! They tried to charge me $20 tolls TIMES TWO to go BACK to city, PLUS $10 extra for small carry-on bags I had next to me on the seat!

Hong Kong is an exciting city to visit with lots of things to see, shopping you can''t beat and restaurants to meet every taste. The MTR and the bus service was easy to use and when in doubt jump in a taxi. The horse races at Happy Valley were a great experience - The CAFE DECO at the peak was a great place to end the day with a great meal and a fantastic view. The ride up in the tram was worth it alone. Take the number 6 bus to Stanley - ride upstairs at the front. Great views and a thrill of a ride for a couple of dollars. Eat at EI CID CARMAR - a spanish restaurant in Murray House. The shopping in the market is fun with some great bargains.

Inexpensive breakfast is at Pacific Coffee House next door..coffee and danish. Free internet to access email was a great benefit. Go to Lan Kwai Fong for dinner and drinks.

Getting around in Hong Kong was very easy. Just take the subway/underground metro. You can buy a 1 day mtr tourist pass for just 50 HKD and you can take the mtr as much as you like (excluding the express airport mtr) but everything is stated in their conditions of use. Regarding tours, I can recommend the dolphin watch tour. The pink dolphins are very unique and dolphins are just fun to watch. The peak tower you should also visit. Just take the mtr to Central en follow the sign to the peak tram then by return ticket for the peak tram (or for those who like to walk you can go by foot) (return ticket: +/- 30 HKD) at the victoria peak you will find shops and lots of other things but the view from upthere is very beautiful (you can see over Central Hong Kong Island and Kowloon) very nice! And at the peak you will find Mme Tussauds (wax museum) and Mr Ripley''s Believe it or not and lots of other stuff...just visit and you will find out! Hong Kong is very safe to walk around, friendly people.

If you are a leisure traveller to Hong Kong and have a few days to spare, I recommend the booklet "Walks in Hong Kong" which I picked up at the tourist information office. Very easy and interesting tours you can take yourself around Kowloon and the islands.

Lan Kwai Fong is the party district to go in Hong Kong. Partying starts on Thursday nites right up to Saturday nites...there are all types of bar and discos there with a good mix of people. There are many expats and foreigners, giving it an international and metropolitan atmosphere.

Just a short stroll down to the waterside where you can spend a lot of time. At 20.00 every night a great light show on the Hongkong island. The Peak of course, where you can enjoy nice food with a splendid view from Cafe Deco. The busy area around Causeway Bay/Times Square where you can find nice restaurants on a quiet half indoor pedestrian strip between Excelsior and Park Lane. And a day-trip by boat to Macau is also nice.
