Stayed at  Panorama Regency Hotel - Batam Island (Indonesia), Singapore.
Easy and cheap to travel by taxi. Lucy's Oarhouse is a good place to eat for Westerners. Golf courses highly recommended.

V Perez 10 August 2001
Stayed at  Summerview Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
I took all the trips I had plan, the Santosa Island tour and the night safari. No big deal in both of them.

The hotel is conviently located close to eating places (cheap in chinatown) and to shopping locations for the tourist. There are several lovely shops selling beautiful antiques not far away and the Sri Miriammam Temple is also within walking distance. Clarkes Quay is not far away and can be walked within 15 minutes. This is a good location for shopping and relaxing by the river. There is also a riverboat taxi to ride in.

On weekends there is a wet market in the Peoples Parvillion (5 min walk away) and also a chance to test your bargaining skills in the floor above the wet market on clothes and jade.

Stayed at  Furama City Centre - Singapore, Singapore.
Bum-boats on the Singapore River, available behind Parliament House, excellent value. Do not miss an evening meal at a restaurant on Boat Quay! Singapore is a food-lover's paradise, from the food stalls which are everywhere, to the gourmet restaurants, which you will find if you look. Shopping on Orchard Road. THE ZOO!!! Oh, and a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar of Raffles Hotel.....the bus and subway combination tickets are good value.

Must see Sentosa Island, Musical Fountain at 1930 hrs excellent. To generalise people very helpful and pleasant, they would try and send you off the right way. Public transport is amazingly efficient and cheap. Buy the Fare Card, S$20 per week should be enough, can use on bus and MRT. Night safari at Mandai is different, basically a zoo with the lights out! Eat at hawker stalls, good variety, good prices, good food. Do not rush, take it easy like the locals! Chinese gardens very beautiful near Jurong, much better than botanical gardens. Fort Canning Park (close to National Museum) very interesting, good views over city. Many temples to see, very Chinese in styles and religions. Temple of 1000 Lights at Racecourse Road impressive.

Stayed at  Meritus Negara Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Although many folks have commented that the Night Safari was great, we found it to be a bust. Sorry!! Singapore is a lovely city and we enjoyed our stay. Walked the city and just took it all in.

Tourist board well organized with great maps and really interesting walks.

A big surprise was the difficulty in getting taxis - not just at peak hours and not just at hotels. One wait was nearly 40 minutes at a hot taxi stand, while cab after cab came through "on call" to passengers who had mobile phones and could order a car. Tourists are generally not so well equipped and if the mood in the queue was anything to go by, many are distinctly unimpressed with this "service". Singapore is justifiably proud of many aspects of its public transport system; taxis are not one of those aspects.

Travellers looking for excellent low-priced local food should definitely make for Kopi Tiam, a hawker centre in the basement of the Meridian Hotel on Orchard Road. Very good food in a "local" environment (despite the location) and unbeatable value. Interested in animals or not, the Night Safari is highly recommended - do the walks, not just the train ride. Thoroughly deserving of its tourism award.

Stayed at  Tristar Inn Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
I go to Singapore to rest and relax. I enjoy walking around and looking at the buildings, shopping in the various stores and the food is excellent no matter where I have gone. So it would be difficult for me to choose one particular thing I like the best. All of the people of Singapore I have had the pleasure to encounter, so far, have been nice. Sentosa was very nice to tour. The night safari is incredible! I plan to return to Singapore each year for my vacation and I usually try to do that twice a year.

Been to Singapore many times, still the same. Often called the "air conditioned shopping mall city", though once or twice I've heard it called the "Lion City". Be careful of the advertised tours to the Night Safari - most charge S$40 to see it, but the entrance fee is only S$15.90!! You need to catch the MRT to the nearest station (S$2) and bus (S$0.90) or taxi (S$4) to it directly. Much cheaper that way.
