Stayed at  Chiang Mai Orchid - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Directly accross the street from the hotel is Buddy's Internet shop; very handy and reasonably priced. And in the Central Plaza (right next to the hotel) is a great cafe on the top floor (4) which has a menu offerring food from about 6 different countries. I ate there on a number of occasions. They had great tacos!

Stayed at  Royal Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Make sure you have visited Wat Arun, Jim Thompson's House, The Golden Mountain, The Royal Grand Palace, and a tour through Chinatown. The only place we didnt have the chance to see is the floating market about 90 miles north of Bangkok. We mostly got around by riding on a tuk tuk, and not all drivers can understand English so be prepared to have a name in Thai of where you wish to go. Don't forget to save 500 bhat for airport tax before your departure from Bangkok (we nearly ran out of money!).

N Tarasawat (2nd call) Saturday, 10 April 2004
Stayed at  Prince Palace Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Locationally good, not far from the main temples of Bangkok, also doesn't take long to reach the restaurants and night market of Silom area. Very close to the modern Siam centre of Sukumvit. Around 10 mins in Taxi. You can also get the Taxi to China town for cheap "street venture" type foods. Takes longer in Taxi than going to Silom but worth it depending on traffic.

Beside hotel is the "river taxis" which are useful to beat the traffic. Stops off not far from the hotel, and shows up virtually every 10 mins. The hotel is situated in amongst a major clothes trading market in Bangkok, they mainly trade in bulk buying, but you can ask them if they sell singular items.

Night time the fruit markets appear outside the hotels, rather than the clothing, but great location for shopping and entering the cities main highights are not far away via Taxi, or navigable by River taxi (look at map of hotel).

Stayed at  Andaman Sunset Resort - Wanna's Place - Krabi, Thailand.
This part of Krabi is not really good for those back packers seeking "Thai prices," on the whole Ao Nang and Krabi are catered for Westerners seeking luxury holidays. Although "Thai prices" can be found you will need to venture away from the main beach spots and into areas were the local community lives. But highly catered for western tourist, people are friendly, but the Thai food here is tonned down a lot, not hot at all, and flavour not as good as in Bangkok, everything is catered for westerners.

Stayed at  Tai-Pan Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
If you go to an internet cafe, don't pay more than 1 baht per minute for usage. You should almost always get a deal for staying longer than 1 hour too. And make sure it is high speed adsl or cable connection or else you'll be paying money to just be sitting there waiting for the pages to load.

E Lebovitz Monday, 2 June 2003
Stayed at  Tai-Pan Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
Overpaid on taxi arriving ($20) I used a taxi service. Returning to airport I used a metered taxi ($4).

Currency booths open 24-7. Better exchange than O'hara in chicago (41 to 37 baht to our $1).

Used a bst pass ($7) for monorail. If you wear sandals, take a few band-aids. sidewalks are in disrepair. Feet will take a beating. Opt for foot massages ($7 an hour).

Food courts and street vendors offer best value for your baht/buck-emporium shopping center & mbk near natl stadium station. Try the fried grasshoppers from street vendors. I ended up removing the legs since they were a little sharp. Remember, you are a guest in their country so be courteous.

Stayed at  Asia Airport Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
I love Bangkok - good value for money, and a great place to transit to get deals for plane tickets.

L Dahmann Friday, 4 April 2003
Stayed at  Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
In general Changmai city is a bit of the un-expected. It's small size is quite astonishing and one can use a scooter to swing around town. If you are looking for a city experience of Thailand would rather recommend Bangkok. Changmai is very poluted lots of smog. If you are interested in manufacturing your own goods like furniture, ceramics, and silk products Changmai is a good starts, but then there is also Bangkok which has a lot more to offer and more unique designs.

G Chambers Saturday, 1 February 2003
Stayed at  Montien Riverside Hotel, The - Bangkok, Thailand.
Bangkok is very Americanized and full of scams. The temples are beautiful and best of all, it is a great place to buy cheap tickets to South Asia destinations.

T Nakaya Sunday, 14 July 2002
Stayed at  President Hotel, Bangkok (UNDER RENOVATION) - Bangkok, Thailand.
World Trade Centre is lacated within a few minutes walk from the hotel. Some other shopping places are also within the area.
