Stayed at Akzent Hotel Schranne - Rothenburg, Germany.

Our visit to Rothenburg was in March of 04. The weather can be variable and we lucked out as the sun shone the whole time we were in town. We were traveling as a group of 8 and for three it was their first trip to Europe and only two of the group had been to Rothenburg before. This was also our first day after getting off the plane from the states, so we spent a lot of time just taking in the differences from our own home towns.
I would recommend visiting the Christmas Store, the church, the wood altar behind the organ pipes at the church, watched the main square clock strike the hour to see the legend of the saving of Rothenburg come to life. We enjoyed the drive along the river and the view of the Mayor's house and the wall from the riverbottom. We hope to return and take in more of the village.

Baden-Baden is Germany's most famous cure place. Visited by the rich Russians, including the Tsjaars. Therefor the casino too! My reason to visit Baden-Baden was for The Wagners Ring des Nibelungen in the great Festspielhaus. 4 days of opera by the famous Russian Mariinski orchestra and choire from St. Petersburg and the even more famous conductor Valery Gergiev. Visitors from all over the world.
Walking routes in the hills are a compensation for the long stay indoors. By car
the visit of Strassbourg, just over the French border, is a must (40 KM). Eat choucroute in the old town!

We were a little limited for time as we arrived at 4.30 pm on the Friday and were flying back to Scotland at 9.00 am on the Sunday, however, we did find time to see Sachsenhaussen which was absolutely gorgeous. The Irish pub O'Reillys was just round the corner and was opened till 4am Fri & Sat and we met many new friends, German, American and even Scottish!!

Stayed at Ibis Zentrum - Duesseldorf, Germany.

We had a hard time finding the hotel. We must have drove around the Bahnhof for 60 minutes and commited five or six traffice violations. Luckily, we did not run into any trains.
I recommend the Irish Pub in the walk platz.
