Went with friends for a knees up & had one !
Lan Kwai Fong is the place to go, there's also good 'Hawker' style food there. The band in Insomnia dont do some of the songs justice but they had a go & the California bar is very expensive - be careful !
Went to an excellent bar / band at the Grand Hyatt ( JJ's I think) much quieter... must be my age.

Purely business trip - Wanchai for dinner (Amaronis - excellent American Italian cuisine), Lan Kwai Fang for drinks - always a mainstay! Taxis are convenient, though the escalator is nearby and often used.

The hotel has a bus stop right outide with regular buses to central. Also has a shuttle service.
The soho escalator is 5 minutes away, which is the main area for trendy bars/restaurants.

HK is fine for a short stop. Good restaurants and nightlife in Lan Kwai fong and Wanchai. Kowloon is worth a visit. Peak Tram is also interesting. Its a strange place and I wouldn't recommend more than 2-3 days here. Its very expensive as well. HK airport is excellent and there is an exceptional rail link between Central and the terminal. Plenty of free internet access and shopping at airport.

Mass transportation very accessible. Did not need to use a taxi. MTRs are prompt, trams are a unique way to see and smell the city. Star Ferry is a must. My son, a teenager, loved the science and space museums, very hands-on.

It took a little time to understand the transportation system in Hong Kong, but once we figure that out, transportation to almost everywhere was easy. We bought the octopus cards for 150 HK$ each and traveled extensively all week on the MTR and buses and still had money left over at the end of our visit. Since the octopus cards were honored at 7-11, we bought snacks on our last night to try to use up the money, but still had over 30HK$ left on each card. I am sure we could have got a refund but we did not bother.
We visited many areas in the Hong Kong area including Victoria peak, the tram ride was worth the ride. We suggest going up the tram late afternoon to see the city etc during the day, eat and then watch the city at night. The fog ( pollution) made it difficult to see too far, but was worth the trip. We also visited Ocean Park a Disneyland want to be. According to my sons, the rides were a bit tame, but some of the scenery was really spectacular as was the pandas and the birds. We visited some of the museums and found the art museum a little over done in term of asia caligraphy but the water front in front of the museum was a post card kind of place.
Most of the rest of the time, we shopped when I did not have the duties to attend to that brought me to Hong Kong in the first place. I did not find the restaurants especially inviting or cheap. The restaurant in the hotel, while vary plain offered decent meals. Although we do not like fast food at home, the fast food restaurants in Hong Kong offered best value for money.
Again according to my teenage sons, the electronics in Hong Kong were neither cheap or cutting edge. They did enjoy the bootleg copies of movies etc.they discovered everywhere. My wife found clothing to be reasonable and fashionable in the major department stores and bought quite a few things. In my view, shopping was everywhere and confusing.
We visited Macau on a day trip and suggest if you go that you take a mini tour of the "country". It was interesting in terms of history and sight seeing.

Spent 5 nights/4 days there, which was too long. Hong Kong looks fabulous, especially at night, but lacks substance/ real exciting things to do, unless you can make shopping your career. Eating was more expensive than London. Travelling about easy & cheap, couldn't afford to go drinking!
