Was there for New Year - had a great time. People in Hong Kong were very friendly, and helpful when needed. Coco Thai restaurant a must for those wanting good, and not too expensive Thai food. Forget the Spaghetti House.

Everyone has different tastes but I'll recommend my preferences: you can trust that most food in Lan Kwai Fong, in the back streets of Central. Expatriates and locals mingle in savvy bars. I would recommend Yung Kee in Lan Kwai Fong which features the supposedly best roasted goose in Hong Kong. The food is definitely one of the best in Hong Kong, but the prices and the long waiting list are insane. Try it anyway despite the hassles of eating there.
As for transportation, just take the MTR and get an Octopus card for which you'll get a refund for your deposit when you leave. You can also use the Octopus card for buses and ferries, I understand, but I didn't use those features. One shouldn't have to worry a thing with Hong Kong's excellent transportation system.
Please take at least a daytrip to Macau. The contrast with Hong Kong is great. The guidebooks and former travellers can tell you all the info, but I won't spoil the surprise. If you take the Star Ferry in Sheung Wan, be sure to get a cheap meal at one of the harbor restaurants amidst the numerous shops. I got a plate of goose rice (yes, I'm addicted to goose), and the rice was soaked in this divine broth. Cheap and a true palate of the ordinary Hong Kong meal.

Hong Kong is an amazing city, with something to do for everybody, if you like shopping then Hong Kong is for you. July is a good time to go for good deals in the shops, with many advertising savings of upto 70%. However going to Hong Kong in july, you have to be prepared for some heavy rain and high humidity. The best way to get around Hong Kong, is to purchase a Octapus card, which gives you $100 dollars of credit, to use the MTR, KCR and Boats around Hong Kong.

With all kinds of exhibitions and seminars, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center was great to visit. Also, a Japanese fusion restaurant called Kokage on Star St. is a place to visit if you don't mind spending some money. And after dinner, drinks and dancing at the 1/5 just above the restaurant could be more than fun.

Stayed at Wharney Guang Dong Hotel Hong Kong, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

Taking the taxi and MTR is definitely the way to go. If you stay at the Wharney, then it'll cost you about $23 HKD to go to Lan Kwai Fong (this is with traffic). The hotel is also very close to the Wan Chai MTR (about a block). I went to HK in late May and don't think I would recommend it to anyone. This is a cheap time to go but it is very hot and humid.

I would not recommend anyone to go to Hong Kong during May. It's very humid. The transportation system is very good.

Hong Kong is... well, Hong Kong. There is no other place like it! It seems to be forever changing. If you've never been there, then you must experience it. If you've visited there before, then go again and see how it has changed. Public transportation is quick and inexpensive. Try to avoid Sundays around Central and in city parks.

I have been to Hong Kong many times, and January has got to be the worst month for weather -- cool, of course, but also the unpleasant grey mist that hovers over the city and which makes the other side of the harbour barely visible.
