Don't miss the BKK river zone, is great. The Grand Palace and the temples, like Wat Arun. And also the New Year's Party was very interesting with all this people wet.

Bangkok is great - but if you want night markets make sure you don't visit over Songkran. No markets just lots of water! What a great city though - very easy to get around & very good value for money.

Be careful not to get taken for a ride with the taxis, and tuk tuks, a trip to town started at 400 Baht and finished at 150Baht, sure we could have still got them down. At Thai New Year if you don't want to get wet take a taxi not a tuk tuk!

Make sure to go to Cabbages and Condoms and Whole Earth - both fabulous restaurants! If you go during Songkran (Thai new year), be prepared to get soaked and dirty and don't expect to do too much sightseeing.

Unfortunately, we only stayed two days in Bangkok (couldn't stand the April heat and fled to Chiang Mai). The Grand Palace, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Temple of the Reclining Buddha are a must. The best way to get to those places is by ferry.
Songkran (the Thai New Year) was one of the most fun experiences of our lives. Definitely recommended, but be prepared for getting soaked as they celebrate it by throwing water on everyone in sight.

Bangkok for Songkran - prepare to get wet! If you don't want to participate in serious water fights then don't go! Otherwise prepare to be soaked through to your underwear! And keep smiling!

On the king's birthday, the day we were there, all the bars are shut. The best food we had on our whole trip was from the seafood stalls at the Night Market near the hotel.

Just to see the amazing temple Wat Phra Keo and the splendid Royal Palace would be worth a visit to Bangkok. As any guide book shows, the city has too many sights to see, too many things to experience and too many places for good shopping to describe them here.
I’d just like to mention a lesser known attraction: Muang Boran at Bangkok’s outskirts. The open air museum harbours in its far-flung park a beautiful collection of historic and present day Thai buildings, along with crafts, sculptures, and even ships. One favourite place of ours, in easy reach of Bangkok, is Khao Yoi, a rock temple in whose cavern a giant statue of Buddha reclines. We have experienced its spiritual atmosphere while lighting candles and incense there; outside, monkeys always wait to be fed.
The island of Koh Samet is surprisingly quick to reach by taxi (bus) and boat. It has spoilt us with white beaches, lush jungle and resorts that offer pleasant bungalows and good food. However, my fondest memories reach out to Chiang Mai, the historic and vibrant city in the North of Thailand. Our daughter chose this of all places to marry during the festival of Loi Kratong, at the time of spiritual cleansing and thanksgiving.

This time was my free-n-easy trip. I like to go to the World Trade Centre, if want to avoid the jam and also long-waiting traffic light, ask the taxi driver whether he knows how to detour and use the lane and stop opposite, and walk over to WTC using the overhead bridge. There is a huge crowd watching World Cup from a big screen - very good atmosphere.

Weekend market is a must-do for shoppers -- and includes some great spots for a bite to eat. We also enjoyed Lemongrass. Don't listen to the many touts on the street advising you that whereever you're visiting (Grand Palace, Wat Po, etc.) is closed.
