Stayed at  Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
If you do not like water splashed all over you at any time, anywhere, then do not go to Chiang Mai during Songkran (Thai new year) 9 to 15 April. On the other hand if you want to get into the spirit of the celebrations it is an unforgetable experience.

J Cowperthwaite 16 April 2003
Stayed at  Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, The - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
We came for Songkran festival, and this hotel was great. Despite being soaking wet when coming in at the end of the day (to clean up/dry up for dinner), the staff was helpful. Very easy walk to the night market, and easy to hire a driver for the day. Went elephant trekking, along with river rafting and factory touring. Really great place, Chiang Mai, and a must see when in Thailand.

J Nave 24 November 2001
Stayed at  Royal Princess Chiang Mai - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Chiang Mai is charming although northern Thailand has been experiencing record cold weather (with frost in some areas) and it was quite chilly in the mornings.

Stayed at  Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, The - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
We visited Bangkok and Chaing Mai. It was good destination if you are looking for good shopping and massage. Thai orthodox massage is fantastic. Very cheap (about 200 Bts for one hour) and your body gets into right posture. Found it extremely good for the person working on computers. But it was very very hot in April. Tourist information, handicraft village is so outdated. It is better to look for something in night market for much less price.
