Stayed at  Emperor Hotel Macau - Macau, Macau.
Found two nice restaurants; one in the alley to the right of the town center civic municipal building, excellent steamed buns and shanghai cuisine. For Macau food, try the o porto interior restaurant near the maritime museum, rua do almirante sergio.

Stayed at  Pousada de Mong-Ha - Macau, Macau.
Os Gatos has a nice terrace for lunch. Avoid the wine museum. It is very boring.

We simply love Macau and visit it as often as we can. There are so many interesting places to see with great shops and restaurants. Here are a few places we visit every time we are in Macau: Best Portugese Restaurant: Fernando's (Hac Sa Beach, Coloane Village) Best pastries and cakes: Mandarin Oriental Hotel Best sandwiches: Angela's at New Yaohan.

I have visited Macau a number of times and have always found it a delight. There is not a lot to see but enough for a couple of days of sight seeing and shopping (or gambling if you have that vice). Plus it has the famous "Fernandos" restaurant on Colonege Island. A must try place (the full plate of chilli prawns are the best).

You're looking at about USD10 for a taxi ride into Macau proper from the Westin resort (good for some sightseeing and furniture shopping during the day and the casinos by night) and about USD40 for a meal for two in a local cafe in Coloane village. The much touted Fernando's restaurant is well worth a trip (booking ahead is advised). Curried crab, grilled chicken and garlic prawns are all great -- but we love pork and they have some great ribs. Portions are very generous (as is the pitcher of Sangria at USD10!)

Best meals at Fernando's in Hac Sa Wan, and Club Military near the Lisboa Hotel. Club Military is a restaurant-standard hotel, with terrific food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Macau makes a very pleasant change from Hong Kong. We have found some really good local restaurants and their prices very reasonable indeed. Service at them is very good.

Though it becomes immediately obvious that Macau is a destination for A) serious gamblers or B) males looking for companionship, the area does offer much in the form of sightseeing. The architechture and cuisine definitely reflect Macau's Portuguese ancestry and the atmosphere is noticably more relaxed than other urban cities in Asia, particularly nearby Hong Kong.

Some specific places I can recommend are St Paul's Church ruins, Fernando's Portuguese restaurant on Hac Sa beach, and for casual night-time drinks, the Napa beach area for many choices of cosmopolitan bars with sidewalk-seating. Club DD's is a popular disco near the Lisboa hotel, but after 1-2:00AM the crowd changes to a more aggressive group, filling with single men and "working girls." Local buses ($5 local currency) and taxis ($10 starting rate) are abundant and convenient.
