Went to Holiday PZ for snacks and a little shopping. To Tebrau Mkt for dinner, 5 mins by cab abt RM$4-$5. Food inexpensive as seafood dinner cld cost abt RM$37 for 2 persons, 4 dishes. Visited the newest shopping ctr, City Square too(5 mins away), realli cool and cheap bargains as the whole town is having a sale!

there are many small restaurants near to the hotel so need not pay those "extras" charges if u dine in the hotel.

There are a lot of cheap pirated VCDs,playstation games and computer software nearby at Holiday Plaza. If you take a cab to Taman market about 1km away, you can savour a lot of cheap and delicious seafood. This place is very popular with Singaporean especially on weekend.

Johor Bahru is a great place for shopping and eating. There are however not that many places to go sightseeing. We tried out something adventurous by taking public transport to the well known Kota Tinggi water falls which was about a two hour bus journey from the hotel. It was not the most pleasant of experience, as we had to change buses at a terminal and not all whom we bumped into could speak English and we were stranded there for sometime. The waiting area for the buses had no indications and the bus stops had no bus numbers.

Coming from a country where the public transport was world class, we found it pretty tough getting around. Eventually we managed our way there but it had begun to rain. The journey back was just as bad as the same buses do not go back in the reverse direction. It was really confusing but it was a hell of an experience.

The food outlets and the shopping area around the hotel were great, I especially liked the Pasar Malam(night market) near the Mariamman temple. It definitely is not the most hygienic of places but it had a wide spread of food savouries. There were many seafood centres around and we went to the one near Pelangi. The food was great and extremely cheap. Lonely planet has a pretty accurate description of the place. A word of caution is that it is pretty diificult to get a cab on Saturday nights, unless you're willing to pay double or maybe even triple the usual amount.

The hotel is very near the brand new city square. One can sample alot of local food within walking distance from the hotel.

There is really nothing much more to do in Johor Bahru other than the shops and the food.

Access to the city is made very easy by the local taxi's. They are reliable and cheap. One of my favorite restaurants is the Eastern Dragon which is within walking distance from the hotel.
