Definitely rent a bike ($1/day) so you can bike into town -- that way you're not tied to a shuttle schedule or paying for motorcycle rides every two minutes. Great internet places along the road into town. The Safari (?) restaurant just down the road is great -- owned by a Vietnamese woman and her California husband, and there's also a crab place right on the water that's meant to be lovely, although we didn't go there. On the road to town, the Gado restaurant is good. Buy as much stuff as you can -- specially lanterns, art work, ties, silk, etc. -- you'll love it when you get home and it only seems heavy now! Check out all the calisthentics on the beach at dawn -- it's really adorable.

Red Bridge, Tam Tam, Cargo Club and Des Amis are restaurants we would certainly recommend. For tailored clothing try A Dong on Le Loi street (they were excellent and recommended by hotel).

The very best restaurant in Hoi Ann, is the MANGO ROOMS, (just across the street from the Tam Tam Cafe). Relaxed and lounge atmosphere in the decor and music, tempting menu (asian fusion), wonderful service, and definite value for the money!

In Hoi An a bit out of town is a very beautiful restaurant called the Red Bridge, it can be reached by boat or by taxi. They also do a great cooking class in the morning for 12 USD.

Hoi An is a gorgous town on the central coast of Vietnam. A wonderful place to stop of for a few days or for a week-like we did. We had a relaxing stay at the Victoria Beach Resort and did nothing during the day but lay by the pool or on the beach. At night time we caught the shuttle into town where we strolled the streets, did some shopping, had some clothes made and ate some fantastic food (very cheap). Two restaurants that we particularly liked were the Mermaid restaurant (fried wantons-yum) and Faifoo - both on the same street. While we had a relaxing time here, there is a lot you can do during the day if you chose to-trips to My Son, the DMZ etc. We chose not to as we did a lot of touring around in other areas and just wanted to relax. We will return to Hoi An and stay at the Victoria Beach Resort again, we enjoyed it that much.

Plenty of good restaurants here, We liked the 'Banana Leaf' best, but plenty of others good too, eg Hai's Scout Cafe where did an excellent cooking course. You should also visit the My Son archaelogical site - fascinating.

Hoi An is the perfect town for travelers looking for good food and shopping. We took the tour to My Son, which is about an hour by car. The Tam Tam Cafe in the city center is highly recommended - both Vietnamese and western food at reasonable prices.

Vietnam is a fantastic country. I am always touched when thinking about the friendliness and hospitality of the Vietnamese people. We travelled around using hired minivans as we were a family group of 6 adults and 2 young children. The prices were reasonable and it allowed greater flexibility. Spending a little extra to take internal flights saved on time and stress when travelling with small children. We would often ask at the hotels we were staying for recommendations to local restaurants and were always pleased with the meals - even for the vegetarians amongst us.
A great experience was our time in Hue where we took some time to visit Buddhist monasteries and see the ancient sights. The buffet dinner for ten US dollars at the Morin was outstanding with service, quality of food and traditional music and entertainment in a magical setting lit by hundreds of candles and lights. I enjoyed my time in Vietnam and would love to return and explore and experience more of this fascinating country.

Hoi An is a very pretty & interesting town, particularly the world heritage area.
Brothers Cafe on the river is a brilliant dining experience. Marble Mountain just up the road is well worth visiting.
