Langkawi is to me a nice beach holiday retreat location. Beside the beach, the beautiful rainforest however nothing much to see. No good shopping centres and beside the hotel restaurants also not much nice places to eat, unless you enjoy the famous street found (Hawker Food) which of course you find anywhere on the island.

We found some excellent restaurants nearby - Bon Ton, T.Jay's & The Lighthouse - breakfast - Breakfast Cafe & Red Tomato. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurants as we were keen to explore elsewhere but our son enjoyed the food from the room service menu some evenings.
We hired a car from the restaurant across the road from the hotel - 6 days RM600 - 1.6ltr - excellent value - enabled us to have a good look around the island. Joined the island tour that took us to the Marine Park well organised, supplied lunch, only complaint was there were too many people trying to enjoy the same spot.
For those who want to avoid the crowds swim to the left of the pier - you'll be herded to the right because that's where they give you lunch. Good selection of tropical fish but not much colour in coral. Our 13 year old son enjoyed the go kart track near the airport, shopping in Kuah, jet skiing, snorkelling at the marine park, sliding down the water falls at Telaga Tujuh, cable car ride nearby, bird park, underwater world & snake park.

It is just so-so, comparing with other destinations in SE Asia. Too crowded, and the streets are smelly. Restaurants are also expensive than other locations.

I recommend "Boat" seafood Chinese restaurant in front of this hotel. Reasonable and good taste. But if you go to 1-2 pm, you will see late delivery.

I would recommmend staying on the main Langkawi island where there is more choice and variety.
Good restaurant on main Langkawi Island is the Barn Thai which is a eco-restaurant that serves Thai food. It is located in the middle of a mangrove swamp and reached by a wooden walkway.

The places literally "on the beach" were the best of all for night-time food.

There are quite close to many local restaurants and the food is good, some of them just walking distance.

The 4-wheel drive jeep is not clean enough before hired to us. The road signs are clear enough. Seven Well is highly recommended but unfortunately we could not find Barn Thai Restuarant due to road sign problem, I heard it is very special.

A lot of places of interest, 2 days not enough. Ikan Bakar restaurant near the seaside is highly recommended.
