Stayed at  Concourse, Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong would have to be one of my favourite cities and certainly the place to go if you're a shopaholic like myself. The value you get for your money is worth the expense (ie. airfare) to go there and shop. Shopping at the markets such as the one in Mongkok and Wanchai is a wonderful way of experiencing and getting to know Hong Kong. I've always found the place clean and orderly and riding the MTR is the best way to get around. After returning home from a trip, I always look forward to my next visit.

Stayed at  YMCA - The Salisbury - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
I basically took the MTR up and down HK and to and from HK and Kowloon - fast, convenient and easy! If you're the adventurous kind, then hop on a bus anywhere in Kowloon and see where it takes you! It was great! Just look around, if the buildings look nice, then get off, you can't go wrong - I got off just outside Pacific Place and I was traveling from Mong Kok!

Most people know where to go in HK. I did the tourist things like go up the Peak, a must for anyone visiting HK, went to the Mongkok and Stanley markets, visited Lamma Island by ferry (seafood resaurants on the main street very expensive...look further) and ate with the locals. Lan Kwai Fong is a fun area to eat and drink for one evening. No special bar or restaurant to mention as there are so many. On the Kowloon side, Knutsford Terrace off Nathan Road has a selection of bars and restaurants also. Chasers is a fun place with a great Philippino band performing there at the moment. Used the ferries, MRT and buses very easily to get around...no need to use taxis so much although they are not prohibitively expensive.

Hong kong is very easy to get by. Taxi are cheap and they all (almost) speak English...

Stayed at  Bishop Lei International - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
It's easy to walk down the escalator to Central and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops in the vicinity.

Stayed at  Kowloon Hotel, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We walked and took the Star Ferry and trams everywhere. Loved the Star Ferry and was amazed at how cheap it is. Happy Noodle and Congee House on Canton Rd. is pretty good.

Stayed at  Concourse, Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We flew in very late and took the Airport Express train in. Since the shuttle buses stopped running after 11PM and we didn't want to take a taxi to the Concourse Hotel, the easiest way to get there was to take the train all the way to HK Station (do not get off at Kowloon) and transfer to the MTR line at Central station, taking the Tsuen Wan line back towards Kowloon to the Prince Edward station.

Despite the SARS situation, it didn't seem as bad as the media makes it out to be. Only 1-4 new cases each day during our week-long stay (May 16-22). Although we wore our masks everywhere, less than half the people around us wore them. Just use common sense--clean your hands often, don't touch the handrails, use your elbows to push doors open, etc. (It remains to be seen if those precautions paid off -- ask me in 10 days.)

Easy walking to trains, trams or bus.

P Durham 18 April 2003
Stayed at  YMCA - The Salisbury - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We got around on the Star Ferry, the subway and taxis. We had no problem finding our way around. We enjoyed the Peking Garden Restaurant, which was near the hotel, for some delicious Chinese food. Be sure to make advance reservations and ask them to prepare Beggars Chicken in advance. We especially enjoyed going up to the Peak and also shopping at Stanley Market.

P Tap 13 April 2003
Stayed at  Bishop Lei International - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We took taxis, buses, the tram, and ferries. Because our son lives in the area, we had our own private tour guide. The Thai resturant in Pacific Place is excellent. We also enjoyed Jaspas in the SoHo area. Shopping in Stanley was fun and the Hong Kong History Museum is excellent!
