F Anniss 12 April 2003
Stayed at  Excelsior, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Taxis, sampans and underground trains all cheap and easy to use. Visited Po Lin Buddha which was the best day out. Victoria Peak - worth visiting. Also visited Macau for the day but did not enjoy this - nothing there really. Jumbo floating restaurant very expensive and so-so food.

Very good Thai & Japanese restaurant's just around the corner, VERY close to a lot of pub's & disco's. Just 10 min from airport exprress. Close to harbour, ferry to Macau, Kowloon side etc. Try Cinta J, Filipino restaurant good music & food, 3 min from the hotel!

We visited the outlying islands of Lamma and Cheung Chau. We also visited the Temple Street and Stanley Markets as well as other sites in Central and Wan Chai. We enjoy walking in HK as well as taking local buses and trains but on this occasion used a considerable number of taxis and sampans.

On previous visits to Hong Kong we have visited Macau, and places in and around both Hong Kong and Kowloon and the New Territories.

Hong Kong has an effective transport system and when a person has familiarised themself with it the city and other areas are within easy reach.

Restaurants we visited included local Chinese Thai and Korean.

If you'd like a short stay for business, it would be a good choice, it is reasonable priced and the best thing is convenient for transportation. There is a MTR station just next to the hotel, you can get to most places by the MTR. There is also bus station, tram station and minibus station nearby, it only takes you less than 3 minutes by walk, absolutely easy even you haven't been to HK.

There are also many different kind of restaurants around, Thai, Chinese, Italian, fast food etc.

Stayed at  YMCA - The Salisbury - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Just come emptyhanded. The hotel provides full information on places to eat and shop, and choosing and experimenting is a good experience. Try the subways and the Star Ferry, they are quite clean and efficient. The tram on Hong Kong Island was fun, the driver very helpful.

B Pejakovic 31 March 2003
Stayed at  Anne Black Guest House (YWCA) - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a shopping paradise. I was at Jade Market, Ladies Market and Night Market at Temple Street. Don't be affraid to bargain or to try some of the food from a food kiosk. Kowloon Park is a nice place to relax. There's a pond with exotic birds, a beautiful aviary and many sculptures. It's quiet, shady and cooler. A touch of fresh air.

I recommend a visit to the space museum. Make sure you have plenty of time because there's an omnimax theatre and a lot of interactive exhibits such as the moonwalk and jetpack ride. This is a funny place for both big and small children. (I'm a big child, age 30). Make time to se the big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery at the Lantau Island. Have plenty of water when you're walking the stairs to and from the Buddha. I had the expencive meal ticket. It was a vegetarian food. VERY GOOD!!

An Octopus Card is very practical if your gonna use buses, ferries, trams and the metro. Taxis are cheap, but few taxi drives can speak much English.

E Margnus 28 March 2003
Stayed at  Empire Hotel Kowloon - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
As for me this was a businesstrip, had to work all day in diffrent offices. For travelling I had to go by taxi, due to the SARS-Virus, normally I think it's easy to go by MTR.

Of course we had some nice dinners, which we spent in Sabatini restaurant (Royal garden hotel), Hugo, (Grand Hyatt hotel Kowloon) and Grissini. (Grand Hyatt hotel HK). All restaurants are highly recommended but of course expensive!!

A Lalor 27 March 2003
Stayed at  Ibis North Point - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
A11 bus from airport, Purchase octopus card at airport info and cash it in when you leave. Seniors get a very good discount on this card on all travel, trains, buses, trams and Star ferry.

Good info from the Hong Kong tourist bureau in Sydney and in HK. That's all you need. Then select your activity. Recommend the tour to the New Territories, trip to Macau (don't have to do this as a tour, take yourself). The self-guided walks great, and the museum terrific.
