Hong Kong is fantastic. Went shopping in Stanley but didn't find any deals, however, the bus ride out there is worth the views! If you are looking for shopping, Wan Chai is actually pretty good. Easiest way to get around is definitely by MTR.

Hong Kong seemed to be all about shopping and eating! Just walking around on the first evening was quite interesting. I found the pushiness of vendors to be a little off putting but I guess that's what Hong Kong is all about. I would question the quality of some of those amazing deals, but if you have the time and the inclination you can find a few things.

On our first night we ate at a sidewalk place. The next day was dim-sum for lunch and dinner at the Shangri-la Hotel - I think the restaurant was the Shanghai Palace (downstairs). This was great - good food and excellent service - and not unreasonably expensive - be careful not to order too much.

Having little time, we took the peak tram - unfortunately the day was overcast, so the view was poor. We decided to walk back down the Old Peak Road. This was a pleasant walk through greenery and a good work out for the hamstrings. On the way we went through the Zoo - OK.

We also went to Man Tau to see the big Buddha - BIG. The bus ride to the Buddha was great. This trip gives you a different view of Hong Kong. Pastoral, mountainous and quiet. If we had known and had more time we would have taken advantage of the hiking opportunities on the way to the Buddha. We got something to eat as soon as we got to the Buddha.

When we went to buy our tickets to the musem, we found that you can eat at the restaurant or the snack bar at the monastry for 60 and 28 Hong Kong dollars respectively - The snack bar option was cheaper and gave plently of food - this is not to say that the noodles we had when we arrived were not good.

We used the octupus card to travel around - this was very convenient - you can buy one at the airport and if you need top the credit up at MTR stations. We used the service at the Kowloon MTR station to check-in our baggage before we went to the airport - what a great service. For such a busy airport, the Hong Kong airport was amazingly efficient.

Stayed at  Novotel Century Hong Kong Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Advice; get the hotel to write your destination in the local language before setting out as we found a lot of the taxi drivers didn't speak English very well. That said, we never got ripped off. Despite what the hotel says, you can do most of the sight seeing by yourself without a guided tour. The subway system is excellent, on time, clean and inexpensive. Buy a one day pass at the station and you can go anywhere on the island and Kowloon.

TSIM SHA SUI in Kowloon is very covenient to any major shopping areas and attractions. Tours are very expensive, but it is very easy to find your way round the town using the map. If you are staying for 3 days or more, buy a Octopus travel card, it will keep the cost of using public transport down.

Everyone speaks English, so you don't have any problem with the language. The HK international airport is very expensive, so if see anything in town and you like, you'd better of buying it there, and save some money.

The are free shuttles between some major hotels and airport express trains, which makes the journey to the airport very easy and cheap. You can check-in your bags at the train station, and they will transfer it to your flight. Don't miss the Peak Tram, which takes you to the highest point, and you can enjoy fantastic view of the town in the evening. There are few good restaurants and shopping mall up there as well, so allow 3-4 hours of your time. Hong Kong is a great place to visit, and shop till you drop....

This hotel is in Mong Kok right beside the MTR and with a drop off point for the A31 bus from the airport. If you like walking it is worth a hike from Mong Kok down Nathan Road to the Star Ferry and then a boat ride to Hong Kong Island.

Very Important to have local currency before arriving in HK.

Go to the HKMTR website and learn more about the HK MTR which is the back-bone transport infracture of HK. http://www.mtrcorp.com/prehome/index.html. Buy a one day tourist MTR pass for HK$50.00, show your passport when purchasing it and carry your passport when using the MTR Day-Pass.

Lots of interesting places to see. Mong Kok station area host a variety of bazaars after 12:00 noon. Lots of things to buy and see but be very careful about pick-pockets and prices of goods. Bargain like you never bargain before!!

Walk to the Star Ferry which is south of the hotel or Nathan Road and take the Ferry across. Cost only HK$ 2.20 and HAVE EXACT CHANGE!!! Once across take the double decker bus to go to Victoria Tram. Bus fare is HK3.20 or if you like, just walk..It's north of the ferry terminal. About 15 mins walk. Then take the tram up to Victoria Peak, cost HK$30.00 or if you have the Octopus card, you can use that too. Very beautiful view up the mountain. There's a cheap restaurant serving all day breakfast like sausages and eggs and toast bread and coffee for HK$ 20 or HK$ 30.

You can also take a walk downtown HK in the Financial District. Many places to see. Streets are always crowded and lots of traffic.

Stayed at  Harbour View International House - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is where I met my (future) missus 22 years ago. So, this place has a special meaning for us whenever we return to visit. We took the A12 airport bus there and A11 bus on the return trip. Efficient and convenient if you do not have too much luggage. Spent much time at Wanchai, which is about 10 minutes walk away. Also enjoyed Central, Victoria Peak at night, and the many street stalls.

I think it pays to be cautious, even somewhat overly. Met a man who just walked up to me and said "you are a very lucky man". "Oh really?" The next moment, he was trying to show me his namecard. No thanks. On another occasion, a woman came flying to the seat next to me at a park. Sobbing, I could see. I thought to myself, what if she suddenly clinged on to me and start a scene while her hands searched for my wallet? I walked away the next minute.
