Hong Kong is one of our favorite places to visit since it has a great selection of restaurants, good places to visit, and is easy to get around.
The best restaurant on our trip this time was Maxim's for dim sum on Sunday. Best to get there early since the lines start forming around 11.30am. There are several in this chain but the one in the town hall, on Hong Kong island, really is outstanding. At Pacific Place on the third floor is an excellent Shanghainese restaurant called Ye Shanghai. Food, service and ambience were all top notch.
After filling up on a big feast we really enjoyed a walk around the bird sanctuary on HK island. A great variety of very colorful and exotic birds can be seen -- and its Free! And of course any trip to Hong Kong is not complete until you've been on the Star Ferry. Its a romantic way to see Kowloon and HK island.
I was also very impressed that while travelling with our 12 month old baby HKers were very helpful to us as parents, letting us jump to the head of the queue on many occasions.

I left Hong Kong almost 35 years ago and Hong Kong has changed a lot. I have visited new venues such as the Ocean Park, Exhibition Centre. How can one restaurant be singled out for extra praise when they are all good! Even the ones located in a side road represent good value. The MTR is unbelievable - inexpensive, clean and above all, frequent and on time. Using the Octopus card is such an experience that I have recommended as a must for my friends when they visit Hong Kong.

A good location for bus and train, but if you come out of the wrong exit from the MTR you will have to do a lot of walking to get back.

Stayed at Mayfair Garden Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
|
If you wish to walk along Nathan Road from end to end, the hotel location is just a right choice. Taking a cab or commute by MTR is completely no problem.

Of all the places I've been in Asia, Hong-Kong is the easiest to get around for westerners, esp. if you only know English. Foreigners have no problems getting around at all, public transport is terrific.
Americans beware: Very few US food chains, HK drives left, you will have to use subways and trams. Better stay at home.

Hong Kong has always been one of our favorite destination. We do a lot of family traveling around the world the past 10 years and this was our third trip to Hong Kong already. Our 2 teenagers really consider Hong Kong as one their top choices. We love the food, the people, and of course, the shopping.
The public transportation system in HK is by far one of the best in the world. It's very efficient and inexpensive. We can go almost anywhere by MTR, buses, trains, or ferries. We highly recommend buying the Octopus Card if you plan to stay a few days. This way, you don't need to carry exact fares with you at all times.

Stayed at YMCA - The Salisbury - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

The hotel link shuttle to and from the Y was very convenient, and with the promotional fare given, it was the same cost as taking the public transport, with the advantage of door to door transport and with someone to help you with the luggage.
Take some of the tours for the outlying islands; they are worth it and will give you a different view of Hong Kong. Also, check out the walking trails in the New Territories.
