The hotel link shuttle to and from the Y was very convenient, and with the promotional fare given, it was the same cost as taking the public transport, with the advantage of door to door transport and with someone to help you with the luggage.
Take some of the tours for the outlying islands; they are worth it and will give you a different view of Hong Kong. Also, check out the walking trails in the New Territories.

Hong Kong is very easy to navigate. All the hotels will provide you with an excellent map of TST in Kowloon and Central. Almost everything is within walking distance. The MTR is very easy and convenient to use. Taxi's are also plentiful. However, it is a good idea to have your concierge write down your intended address in Chinese and the name and address of your hotel, as there are quite a few taxi drivers who don't speak English.
A great night spot is Lan Kwai Fong on Hong Kong Island. There are a whole slew of bars are restaurants located within a couple of blocks. A couple of other great bars are Carnegie's and Banana Joe's in Wanchai. Check out Soho for ethnic restaurants, all of which are on the island. In TST check out Gaylord's for Indian, Fat Angelo's for homestyle Italian (there is another one in Soho) and Dan Ryan's for a good steak. It's a good idea to make reservations, because most restaurants are always packed.
To get the latest rugby scores, look for The Kangaroo Bar and Delany's is a good Irish Pub with live music, both are in TST. The Dublin Jack, located in Mid-levels, is also a great sports bar and popular with expats. They always have on a football (soccer) or rugby match.

Enjoyed visiting Stanley. Except the market area, it's a nice place.
Before buying an Octopus or daily MTR card, calculate how many trips you'll make, it might be cheaper to buy single trip tickets. Taking the Ferry from Kowloon to Central costs about 1,70 $ but the MTR 9$. It might be worth walking 5 minutes to the Ferry station and have a nice boat ride instead taking the MTR.

If getting money exchanged, only change a small amount at the airport -- the exchange rate is really bad at the airport. Also, while the airport hotel-link shuttle appears to save some money, our experience with the shuttle service was not good. It took almost 2.5 hours to reach our hotel and was not worth the $60 HK we saved by taking the shuttle.
I would highly recommend that one take the harbour cruise at night. The skyline is amazing and from a harbour cruise one gets the opportunity to view it all.

Located away from the main street of Nathan Road, the hotel is still very accessible on foot and by taxi. There is also a free airport express shuttle that stops at the hotel.

At Airport Express Hong Kong Station, on the first floor there is a Pacific Coffee offering free internet access 15 minutes at a time. Another Pacific Coffee that offers free internet access is located near the intersection of Hollywood Rd. and the Escalator.
If you take the shuttle bus to Bank of China Tower, you may walk to visit St.John's Cathedral and Hong Kong Park or take the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak for a magnificent harbour view. From Central Plaza, you may walk to Wanchai Pier to take the ferry or visit Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center Extension. At Admiralty MTR Station, you may take the Underground.

First visit to Hong Kong. Public transport is superb and CHEAP too. Wherever you are, there seems to be an option nearby of good public transport. Would recommend people to use the buses on Hong Kong Island and take the longest route to get to their destination - sitting on the top of a double decker bus you get to see a lot this way.
Visited Peak Tram, Bird Market, Aberdeen, Stanley, longest escalator as well as doing a lot of walking. The Tourist Information office at the Star Ferry were very helpful - providing maps, bus numbers and costs. Lovely service and atmosphere at Jimmy's Kitchen (Restaurant) but you pay for it!

I was surprised to find that the bus from Central to Peak tram is not free of charge any more. I lived in Hong Kong from '94 to '95, and visited on '98, and this bus was free.

If you need to go to the airport next day, you can ask the hotel staff arrange you a taxi to take you the next day. If you do have a lot of luggage, this is probably cost effective.

Easy to get to off the MTR. If you are white expect to get hassled by Indian tailors and fortune tellers.
