Set a little back from the busy Nathan Road, the hotel's location is ideal for all the Night Markets - just a short stroll from the hotel. The A21 bus stop to the Airport is just on the opposite side of the road.@If you like Japanese food there is a good restaurant near the hotel. Yoshinoya, is also a good Chinese fast food restaurant if you are in a hurry. The Star Ferry is about 20-25 mins walk away from the hotel.

Generally people are very helpful with directions so it is rather easy to get around ourselves. We had an enjoyable and a rather relaxing time in this populated city.

Ferry ride (US$1.50) of 30 minutes to Lamma Island for relaxed seafood meal and quiet walk in the country. No cars. Central escalator (must be seen) to Peak Tram for visit to peak for view and large variety of food and drink by day and night. Go up to Peak in afternoon and see HK lighting up with window seat in Restaurant.

MTR easy to use and cheap. Airport Express brilliant and only US$25 return. Use taxis for short journeys everywhere. Flag fall US$2 and very cheap. People friendly and most shops speak English. Very helpful as all really want to do business. Excellent place overall. Very safe by day and night.

Hotel very central, so possible to walk to the Peak Tram Station (15/20 mins), Star Ferry terminal (15 mins).

Stayed at  Newton Hotel Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
The Peak restaurant is one of my favorites, but reservations are recommended. The food is wonderful, the ambience outstanding. One must go in the evening and combine the experience with a look at the Harbor. I fall in love with Hong Kong all over again each time I go.

Transportation: I've taken every conceivable form of transportation available in HK, and all of it is very efficient.

A Wong 22 November 2002
Stayed at  Newton Inn North Point - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
MTR (subway) station is 2 to 3 blocks away from the hotel. I took MTR and other transit to many places in Hong Kong. Tram and bus stops are a block away from the hotel. I took tram to Casuaway Bay and Central. It is cheap and exotic. I took bus to Repulse Bay and Stanley Market. I sat in the upper deck. The view was beautiful. I also try the Star Ferry and peak tram. It was fun and views were great.

I suggest the travellers to buy the Octopus card (smart card). It is very handy. It is good for most transit, except taxi. I used that to pay the fees for street tram, peak tram, bus, mini-bus, MTR, train, .. even Airport Express, so that I didn't need to carry the change around. I bought that in MTR station. I needed to pay $50 deposit for each card. When I left Hong Kong, I returned the card and got my deposit back in the airport.

Why take the train if you are in no rush. For the third of the price of the train you can take the bus and get a free sightsing in fabulous Hong Kong.

Stayed at  Evergreen Hotel Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Walked to most places, except on Hong Kong Island where used tram - very cheap and efficient. Ferry services are also good. Would recommend visit to Cheung Chau island.

Stayed at  Stanford Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
If you are using the airport express, be sure to check in downtown (or Kowloon). The service is still underused and hence extremely fast and hassle-free.

If you are not in a hurry and are looking to save money, the bus is an excellent option to get to and from the airport. The price and the sightseeing advantages make it worth the few seconds extra it takes to figure out.

L Ah man 18 November 2002
Stayed at  Shamrock Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Shamrock is well-situated and you can find many types of restaurants nearby the hotel. The MRT is a few steps away and bus-stops are found on the doorstep of the hotel.
