J Warwick 18 November 2002
Stayed at  Anne Black Guest House (YWCA) - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Used the subway extensively the hotel is a fairly long walk from the subway station.

C Alway 18 November 2002
Stayed at  Charterhouse, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Mostly walked around Hong Kong Island, although the MTR is cheap and very clean and fast way to get further afield. The Peak Tram is a must - avoid weekends.

Stayed at  Anne Black Guest House (YWCA) - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
I travelled primarily by MRT (metro) and taxi. Hong Kong is a great shopping destination and I recommmend the warehouse outlet at Kowloon Station.

M Au 17 November 2002
Stayed at  Eaton Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Very similar to New York, very crowded. Money talks here. No problems haggling prices during shopping. Food mostly delicious, average on one or two occasions. Club/Bar-hopped a lot, drinks were pricey but not watered-down. Places tended to be on small side (Hong Kong after all), some insanely crowded. Some clubs like The Drop membership only, chatted up some local connections and got in. Not very impressed, packed like sardines, bar so-so (no Heineken ha-ha).

Recommend bring taxi fare and just keep moving to different places until you find one you like. MTR is great, easy to use and convenient. Really seemed to negate location of our hotel. Can't recommend any tours or much else (mostly bar-hopped and checked out nightlife).

N Lin hong 17 November 2002
Stayed at  Empire Hotel Kowloon - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Interesting place but very crowded. Unfortunately, I'm not careful enough to let some thugs pickpocketed my passport. Nice food but people there mostly can't speak proper English or Mandarin which make it difficult to order food. Get around is easy with the MTR and a map on hand.

K Korhonen 15 November 2002
Stayed at  Shamrock Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Used mainly metro and buses. Taxis only occasionally. All tourist attractions where easily reached. Peak and the Ocean Park and Macao where the best!

J Brennan 15 November 2002
Stayed at  Shamrock Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
This was mainly a shopping stopover. I bought a camera in Mon Kok rather in the more expensive golden mile shops where there is less hassle. I visited the Temple St. night market very close to the hotel and went to the Golden Arcade in Sham Shui Po. I got there on to MTR to Sham Shue Po exit D brings one out almost beside this computer arcade on 3 floors which is about the best place in HKG to but computer products. Very crowded at weekends.

K B mcnett 15 November 2002
Stayed at  Emperor, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Cash minimuim amount at airport like $50, just for taxi from Kowloon or HK stations, you can charge octopus card to your credit card, my hotel had better exchange rate than the airport and hotels are known for generally having the worst exchange rates. Limited public internet access.

A Ho 13 November 2002
Stayed at  Caritas Bianchi Lodge - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Worth seeing: Victoria Peak (take the Peak tram up), Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island (big sitting Buddha), take the Star Ferry from Kowloon to Hong Kong island for good scene of the city skyline, ride the tram in Hong Kong.

MTR (subway) is a very fast and easy way of getting around. Buy an Octopus card from any MTR station. It allows for convenient use of most forms of public transportation without carrying change.

R Worth 13 November 2002
Stayed at  Langham Hotel, Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is too crowded and too expensive. The first time I came to HK was in 1973 and found the city very exciting. Its glamour has worn off. I come here on business now but had some time to visit the HK History Museum (near the Science Museum). I enjoyed that very much, especially looking at the artifacts and exhibits from the colonial era and the events that lead up to it. The MTR is great.
