J Woods 13 November 2002
Stayed at  Anne Black Guest House (YWCA) - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
It is a 15 minute walk from the nearest subway stop and it is about 15 to 20 mins away from the Bird market. It is not near the main restaurant or attraction areas but it is not that far either.

N Meloy 12 November 2002
Stayed at  Eaton Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
The best way to travel around HK is to use the MTR. Purchase an octopus ticket (multivalue) which can also be used on the airport express. Check in for the airport can be made at Kowloon station.

K Nomura 11 November 2002
Stayed at  Ibis North Point - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
It was very close to train station. But they should prepare neighbor information map or something for visitor. It was not easy to study location.

D Burgess 11 November 2002
Stayed at  Imperial Hotel Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Very near to their train stations and also within walking distance of the harbour ferries as well, Both are easy to use and very reasonably priced.

F Mrack 11 November 2002
Stayed at  YMCA - The Salisbury - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We used the Octopus pass, which included the Airport Express, MTR, buses, Star Ferry and Victoria Peak tram. Great value! We also visited several markets and found the Stanley Market to be the best. We did the harbour tour at Aberdeen and found it quite interesting seeing the house boats. Walking down Nathan Road at night was quite an experience, all the people and all the lights. We found the people friendly, helpful and courteous. Twice while we were consulting our map we had people come up to us and asked if we needed any help.

D Clark 11 November 2002
Stayed at  Regal Hongkong Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
I visited a friend of mine in Hong Kong who showed me around in a whirlwind tour. I was impressed by the convenience of the subway system (especially the connection to the airport), and enjoyed taking the tram ride to the top of the city, visits to a couple of temples, and a ferry ride to an outer island. HK is a busy city with a lot to see, but I did not get from it much sense of a history - in a sense, it is irrelevant - so it may be disorienting to those who expect this as part of the package. Has a fun bar section, and for a tourist the city is easy to navigate.

W Harrison 09 November 2002
Stayed at  City Garden Hotel Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We visited all around Hong Kong, Kowloon, went up Victoria's peak. Only there for two days, definitely not enough. Took the Metro, Trams and ferries.

G Gould 08 November 2002
Stayed at  Bishop Lei International - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
There was very much to see and explore just steps outside your hotel door. We walked from the BLI hotel to the Peak tram, past the old Governor General residence, through a large park and zoo and around the financial district.

On your 1st morning ride the escalators down to the harbour and you will get some good ideas for eating and shopping, ride the starline across the harbour and explore the waterfront and Nathan street. On your way back to the hotel the escalators are reversed so you can ride back up to your hotel in comfort. There's a nice pizza place just outside the door of the hotel if you're too tired to go out for dinner when you get back.

M Checkley 08 November 2002
Stayed at  Wesley, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
The Wesley is right on the main trunk line. One of my favourite places was the famous Peak on Mt Victoria. You can catch the No15 bus from behind the Wesley which takes you right up to the Bus terminal - allow 40mins. I got there just to see the sun setting and the fairy lights of Hong Kong and Kowloon sparkle to life.

Also from Admiralty Bus stop (harbour side) you can catch the Express 260 to Stanley Beach and Deep Water Bay. Such beautiful clean and golden shore lines. Was a surprising feature of this City island. Was a pleasant ride down there and enjoyable day. Out of all the bays, St Stephen's just a short shaded walk from Stanley, is by far the best if you just want a bit of peace and quiet.

Lantau Island is also a must see, I went on a tour and by far the greatest time was atop the mountain where sits (at present) the largest, seated, outdoor bronze Buddha! Excusing the superlatives this place is an awe inspiring sight, with mystical views of distant islands and fords cutting into Lantau's Coast!

Hong Kong hold a lot of surprises!

D Jung 05 November 2002
Stayed at  Charterhouse, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We used the free airport shuttle bus (might only be available to purchasers of an Octopus card - for the MTR) to take us to a hotel which was close to our hotel.... then we walked a couple blocks to our hotel. When we left, The Charterhouse offered a shuttle to the airport for 200 HKD per person... you have to buy a ticket from the concierge. We used the Octopus card to get around on the MTR system, very easy to use. The Octopus card is also good for the Star ferry line and the Tram to Victoria Peak.

For outdoor lovers who tire of the big city (HK is VERY crowded and busy), there was a walk on Lamma Island recommended in a HK tourist guide (obtained at the airport) from one small town across the island to another small town. There are Star Ferries that run daily between HK and both small towns. It's a nice hike with beautiful views, trekking up and down through the mountains, on mostly paved walkways. Odd to see paved sidewalks going up and down hillsides.... I guess you can do that when you don't have snow and ice.
