didn't do any sightseeing since I had visited Macau many times in the past. taxi is the best way to get around went to a Portugese Restaurant, Amaga on Taipa. The food was very good quality and the price reasonable.

Fernando's seafood restaurant is excellent and the Westin runs a minibus service to it - although it's not free, you have to pay $30. Make sure you get into the town to explore - don't just stay around the Westin or you won't experience the "real" Macau!

Macau is very different from Hong Kong. Much quieter, less traffic and a little cheaper. My wife and I were amazed at how helpful and friendly everybody was. Mostly we got around in taxis, but we did manage to get on one bus. I have nothing negative to say about getting around. The Museum of Macau is a wonderful exhibit and the Grand Prix museum and Wine museum are pretty good too. The food was very good and there is a nice variety to choose from.

We did walk to most places, but anything further afield we took a taxi,as we are rather lazy - but they were still half the price of a Hong Kong taxi. There were plenty of buses for the not-so-lazy people. Fernandos is a must - but perhaps try lunchtimes, dinner always entails a long wait of at least an hour, sometimes more.

A lovely city very different from Hong Kong-beautiful architecture with a truly Mediterranean flavour- the Rome of the South China Seas! I recommend a couple of excellent restaurants- Fernandos on the island of Coloane (take a taxi-only 62 dollars from the hotel). You can't book so you must go early and reserve a table. Off Senado square down a side street to the left of McDonalds is a charming Portuguese restaurant called Platao (recommend reservation as it is extremely popular). There is an outside courtyard area which is very romantic and the food is excellent. Saving up for the tours next time as we will certainly be going back.

Stayed at  Pousada de Sao Tiago - Macau, Macau.
We had been warned by friends in Hong Kong that 3 days in Macau were too long - we disagree. We spend 3 days there and need to go back to see the things we didnt see.

An excellent restaurant is the Praida Grande - not suprisingly on the Praida Grande, the Portugese food there is some of the best we've tasted and the staff were friendly and efficient.

If you want to get behind the tourist facade, then walk everywhere - thats what we did. That way you get to visit the back streets and markets that you might not otherwise see.

Stayed at  Mandarin Oriental Macau - Macau, Macau.
Macau is a totally different experience than Hong Kong, being nowhere near as built up, and with plenty of it's Portugese history on display. The ferry ride from Hong Kong is very easy, costing HK$290 total return and taking about one hour from the Macau ferry terminal in Hong Kong. We would recommend the Macau museum adjacent to the Cathedral ruins as highly interesting.

We really loved Macau!!! We are not tour-type people but we don't think there is a need to take tours around Macau anyway. The bus system is excellent and much to see is in walking distance of the hotel. We enjoyed the Maritime Museum. We enjoyed the food. We had lunch on the south most island, west of the old village, at a restaurant on a hill over looking the South China Sea. The food was well prepared, fresh and inexpensive. Of course, the atmosphere was like something out of a movie. Sara enjoyed walking along the beach although the sea although it is filthy. I enjoyed the nature walk across the end of the island. The summer houses were interesting. The casinos were disappointing. The minimuns are high.... almost thirty dollars u.s.a and the games favor the house by more than an acceptable amount.... I played only long enough to say I'd done it. Luckily, soon there was a point where I was ahead; so, I could walk away and be able even to say, "I won in Macau!"

We found Macau enjoyable, travel by taxis was easy, we also hired a car for one day. We visited the Maritime Museum, Hac Sa Beach for lunch at Fernandos, the fortress, several temples and the pedestrianised shopping areas.

Arrived from H.K by ferry. However, shuttle bus services from hotel not so frequent, resulting in long waiting time. Had visited Lisboa Casino and some historical sites. Lisboa is a dirty place, but I like the other historical sites in Macau.
