Ipoh is a town with a glaring absence of strategically placed road signs or no road signs at all. We thought we could get around easily in our car without arming ourselves with a road map but we were wrong. Even directions from locals and hotel's staff are misleading and inadequate and as a result we got lost a few times just to go to Jaya Jusco!

Not much place for visitor except night disco and morning shopping area like Ipoh parade, Kamdar, Yip Foong...etc. I did not visit the Tambun Cave and Perak Tong. I heard that you will have to hire a taxi to go there, Rm$20/hour. If you stay there for 5 hour then will be Rm$100. Yes got around in taxi. Over there they speak more in Cantonese than Madarin, English not very well and Malay too. I only stay there 2D1N, instead of 3d2n.

Good 2.5 hrs drive ffrom the KL international airport. This is the fastest way of travelling to Ipoh if you don't want to wait for connecting flight. Lots of roadworks as your near Ipoh city.

The location of the hotel is not convenient to anything. We took a taxi to a local shopping center (~10 minutes), but the other times my aunt or uncle picked us up. There were no shops/restaurants within walking distance (except for the hotel shops/restaurants). The caves in Ipoh were great, but cannot be reached very conveniently from any hotel in Ipoh.

We found that there wasn't a lot to see in Ipoh itself, but this may be due to the fact that the tourist office was closed on the day we were there - so could not get any walking tour brochures.
We had a hire car so drove the the following places:
We visited Kellie's castle - highly recommended.
We went to Tempurung caves. We took the short Golden Flow tour. The cave does other longer, more adventurous trips, you need to take a change of clothes for these!

Sorry, can't give much comment on destination as I was only there for a day. But the location of the Heritage is quite convenient as it's not too far away from the city.

Speedsters better be careful. There's a whole bunch of traffic policemen on duty on the North-South expressway that are waiting for speeding motorists to come by so that they can impose a 'toll' on them. Typical toll charges are RM50, sometimes bargainable to RM30. Note that they love to target Singapore cars. I saw them letting go a couple of Malaysian cars flying past at 160kmph while stopping a Singapore car behind them that was going at approx. 120kmph.
