Stayed at  Crowne Plaza Riverside Kuching - Kuching, Malaysia.
Used Borneo Fairyland tour company to visit Iban Longhouse, 3 days and 2 nights. We hate organised trips but this is the only way to see a longhouse, as you must have a guide, they were exellent!! No cattle market, personal service and very real experience, only the two of us on a guided jungle trek, with lunch in bamboo!!!! Recommended place to eat in Kuching is the 24 hour cafe opposite the Crowne Plaza (don't go to the C. Plaza!)

This is my 3rd trip to Kuching. I spent some time in Kuching city itself before going to the beach resort. The Damai Beach is only 45 minutes from the City and so in conveniently located. We loved walking around the area because of the mountain scenery, the greenery and the beach which is very clean. If you have children the Sarawak Cultural Village is a good experience.

Kuching City is quite compact so getting around is not a problem. The best places to hang out are the Waterfront and the Bazaar. However, at the Bazaar do inspect the items you buy carefully to make sure that they are free of defects. Bargaining is also expected or you end up over-paying. A nice place for a drink and just to enjoy the atmosphere is the Brookes Bristo and Bar that is near the temple end of the Waterfront.

it's in the town area. easy to get a cab. we went to cat musuem, orang utan wildlife centre, cultural village, waterfront, pasar satok etc. place to eat seafood for seafood lovers-medan letak kereta which is within walking distance from the hotel. also got to try laksa sarawak, delicious! wish can stay longer...

It rains a lot in Sarawak so it is better to visit with the idea of absorbing the culture rather than lazing on the beach. A taxi from the airport turned out considerably cheaper than the transport arranged by the hotel.

Stayed at  Grand Continental Kuching - Kuching, Malaysia.
Kuching is a pleasant city to visit. If you go to Semenggok, where orangutangs are rehabilit- ed,donīt go with an agency for RM40,when you can take a bus for RM3.The only thing is that you have to walk 1,5 km. Donīt miss the Cat Museum. Itīs a museum youīll probably canīt see anywhere else in the world. Bako National Park is a must. Many trails in the rainforest. Beware of the leeches. Donīt miss Sarawak Museum. A good place a rainy day. Green Hill Corner is a good place to eat noodles for RM3. Nice staff.

To travel around the resort was easy as there are free shuttle services to bring us from the Cultural Village to the Damai Lagoon Resort. However, we would prefer to see more different variety of restaurants in the vincinity eg. Japanese, Korean, Chinese etc.

Everything is within the walking distance from the hotel e.g. Cultural Village and waterfalls. Seafod restaurant is 10 to 15 minutes drive. The restaurant will provide complementary shuttles. The jungle trackking is relatively easy for newcomers. But I think they should label the exotic trees so that the visitors can identify them. There is no grocery shop around the hotel but you can us the hotel's shop (but a bit expensive and limited selection).

shuttle-service provided by the hotel takes you for 20 ringgit to town and back, it takes about 45 minutes. near the holiday inn and crowne plaza theres a few plaza's to do some shopping and on the street along the riverside, theres loads of nice handicraft shops very close to the hotel is the sarawak cultural village, which is very nice to see.

Kuching is 3/4 hour away by bus and is a great city for experiencing the real Malaysia. The hotel organises excursions all over and so even when you are tired of loafing by the pool there is masses to do.
