Stayed at  Oriental Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Singapore! - well, what can you add to the well-known reputation of this great city? I must observe, that if you are not here on business, and not into shopping and/or eating, it can be somewhat bland. However, there are 22 fine quality museums scattered about the city, some in quite obscure locations, that range from fine arts, stamps to the Singapore Fire Department. Many of the museums are free of charge.

Major area in need of improvement - For a city to promote itself as being so tourist friendly, I must observe that it is quite difficult to navigate the city using local transportation - buses and the light rail system. It would be of great assistance if the Singapore Tourism Bureau published a handy guide that related the locations of tourist attractions and amusements to the MRT stops and the Municipal Bus Line numbers with their associated stops. What meager information that is currently available is woefully inadequate. You might wish to pop for the S$1.50 bus guide (kind of heavy) available at the tourism office and most bookstalls.

Stayed at  Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
One drawback is absence of MRT stations near to hotel. However taxis very cheap and bus stops nearby if needed. Handy for all key sightseeing - very pleasant location - lovely walk along the river and to the quays.

Stayed at  Swissotel The Stamford - Singapore, Singapore.
I was most delighted by the extention of MRT to Changi airport terminal 2. Before it, taxi often gave me a lot of thrill by racing on the highway between the airport and hotels. MRT is safer, more quiet, punctual and incredibly cheap! I recommend.

Stayed at  Swissotel Merchant Court - Singapore, Singapore.
Located within 15 minutes walk to Chinatown and a 10 minute walk to Boat Quay and Clarke Quay. Taxis are easily available and the MRT is just 10 minutes away.

The subway and bus system make it easy to get around the island. There are two tea shops and a great Chinese bakery near the hotel...check them out: Tea Chapter on Neil Rd and Yixing Xuan Tea house on Tanjong Pagar Rd.

Bought a bus ticket on the Singapore Airlines bus which cost S$3 this is a bus which travels in a loop around Singapore and you can get on and off where ever you want for the day - particularly enjoyed the botanical gardens.

Had afternoon tea at Raffles which was more like a feast need to book and the men must wear long trousers. Caught the E bus which takes you to Sentosa Island (south of Singapore) S$7 each include return bus and entry to the Island and use of all transport while you are there. Spent a couple of hours on one of the lovely beaches but could have visited some of the attractions at an extra cost. Singapore a good stop off for a couple of days.

Make sure you have a map handy to know where you are and which places you want to go or some taxis give you the run around if you don't know. Very convenient spot to travel from to all locations. There are many malls and cheap bargains around the hotel all at walking distances. So no need to eat from the hotel if you are on a budget.

C Chionh 03 November 2002
Stayed at  Panorama Regency Hotel - Batam Island (Indonesia), Singapore.
During my short stay of 2 days, I only managed to go to Robinsons and Ramayama for some shopping. The T-shirts there are quite nice, value for money. As for eating places, I would suggest The Batam Cafe at Nagoya Mall, right beside the hotel. There is another Chinese restaurant at Nagoya Mall, sells quite nice Tim Sum. The atmosphere's quite nice, with swinging seats. There is also KFC at Robinson, be prepared to eat with your bare hands there.

For scenery taking, go to the 17th floor of the hotel to catch a good view of the entire Batam island. Avoid taking taxi if you must, as most of them can't speak English. However, each time you get on the streets, try counting the number of horns you hear..from taxi drivers asking if you want a ride..there are just so many of them on the streets! The air there is very polluted too..

Stayed at  Furama RiverFront Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Used the bus service that took us around most of the sites.

Stayed at  Garden Hotel Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Getting around by taxi and the MRT is both cheap efficient although the new ticketing machines at the MRT stations seemed confusing to me and by many other users and I strongly recommend a night visit to Clark Quay.
