Singapore is a wonderful place - clean, picturesque with some great museums and sights and with generally very helpful and friendly people. It's easy to walk around the Colonial area (the Pedang), Chinatown, Little India and the Arab Quarter. But I'd recommend taking the bus or a taxi (which is not expensive) if you want to explore Orchard Road or travel to Sentosa Island.

Sentosa is a great pleasure island with fabulous beaches and a free night-time show of music, lights and lasers at the fountains in front of the Merlion Statue. Don't miss this half hour show as it is great fun. If you take the Sentosa bus from town, it costs only S$7 for an adult return ticket that includes admission to the island.

Also good value is a bumboat ride from Clarke Quay. We paid £10 for two adults and a child. The tour is has a taped recording that tells you a lot about the city and the views are wonderful - especially at dusk. Watching the city light up is unforgettable.

The most popular temple in the city is the Kuan Yin Temple in Waterloo Street. People are always crowded around, buying flowers to give to their Gods and it's full of local colour.

Best food deals around - try any of the food courts. They're cheap, tasty and have the advantage that every member of your family can eat from a different stall if they want (thus satisfying their different tastes) and still eat at the same table (thus satisfying your need for family unity!)

Singapore may feel a little too civilized and clean but after the chaos that is Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, it is a great relief. I suggest leaving Singapore until the end of your Asian holiday. A few days of luxury in a clean, safe environment with great beaches on Sentosa and lots of fun attractions is the perfect way to end a holiday.

Visited Singapore Expo, as have visited Singapore many times had no trouble getting around. One possible consideration could be to run a shuttle bus a couple of times a day to Orchard Road or other shopping locations and places of interest.

After arriving in singapore at 12:30 a.m. I wondered out of orchard hotel on to orchard road. I was promptly "greeted" by four or five "tea hostess" every 20 feet. getting to the hotel was easy. since mrt subway was closed i took a "london" cab for $35 singapore rather than wait in line for a regular taxi. getting to the airport at 4:30 a.m. $24 singapore. i took the mrt subway everywhere. trains run every 5 min. food courts & hawker stands cheap!! fresh fruit drinks s$3.50 chicken rice s$3 small portion ice kachang s$2.50 to just a s$1.00. city is clean. people mind their own business. subways & stations clean. ngee ann city has a big department store takishimiryah? giant food court & kiosks on lower level. my fav food court-emerald on orchard rd.

Fine dining available in hotel but too short a time to sample the food. There is various type of food available if one wish to dine alfresco within 2 minutes walk from the hotel. There are seafood, Mexican, Indonesian, northern Indian, etc. The Centrepoint whose anchor tenant is the famous Robinsons is 4 mins away.

Singapore is a boring tourist destination. The rumors are true. Everything is clean. There were hardly any stray leaves on the ground. There was no smell at all. However there is not much here since it is so new. THere are just hundreds of malls. I can't believe that they managed to fit so many malls in such a small city. Nothing is cheap. If you like the prices in THailand and Indonesia and Malaysia, don't expect that here. Prices are nearly the same as the US. THe night safari was nice. BUt very hard to get to. 25 minutes on the subway and then 30 minutes on a local bus that tourists were completely confused about using. Singapore is Hong Kong if they demolished the whole island and then built everything new from scratch. I used Sing. as a short 3 day trip and went to TIoman Island, which is gorgeous, by 4 hour ferrry directly from Sing.

If you fly singapore air - the splendour card they give for free is good and gives you good tips on where to eat. If you have a chance make a trip out to The national stadium, where they have a flea market on Saturday's and have some restaurants there.

Singapore is one of the great cities of the world. It's clean and safe. The ethnic mix makes for some interesting conversations. I love Singapore taxi drivers - they seem to always have something to say about the state of the world. The shopping for electronics is excellent although not as inexpensive as it was 15 years ago. This is a wonderful city to walk around in. Lots of small eating establishments to stop and have something to eat and drink while you are walking your way through the city.

We spend 5 days in Singapore and loved it. We've spend a lot of time shopping and wandering trough Little India and Chinatown. In Chinatown we went to the Tea Chapter to enjoy a nice (quite expensive) traditional Chinese tea. We've been to the Night Safari, which is well worth a visit! It's easy to travel in Singapore, we've seen al lot by foot and for further distances we used the MRT. Singapore is clean and well organised.
