Stayed at  Swissotel The Stamford - Singapore, Singapore.
Great location of the hotel, the MRT station is accessible from the hotel and is easy to use to get around the city and outlying areas. Excellent services within the hotel. The Thai and Singapore restaurants on the second and third floors are very good quality. Being able to walk to the other shopping malls in the area from the Stamford is a plus.

In Singapore as taxis are really cheap I would recommend to take always a taxi and avoid the hassles of taking a bus or subway. The hotel is ideally located withing a few minute's walk of little Inidia and the great shopping centre of Bugis Junction.

Singapore is a shopper's paradise. So if you want to shop for jewelry, electronics, camera..this is the place. Also, lots of foot massages, which were very good, albeit painful. Lucky Plaza on orchard road has many, BUT much more expensive than Chinatown's, which I liked better and was S$20 cheaper.

I only stayed 2 days, would have liked to stay longer...so I didn't take any tours. There are many available, as well as beaches to swim at and Malaysia right next door to visit. There is a Night Safari which I wanted to go to, tho I didn't, however, I was told to take mosquito repellant.

I used buses, which are readily available near the hotel, and I used a taxi, and the fare was very fair. As for restaurants, I am a vegetarian, so I sampled some of the easy to eat street food. However, fish and all kinds of food are available, including frog, shark, jellyfish, (all UGH to me).

Stayed at  Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
Taxi is main transportation to and from hotel, there is a shopping mall 3 blocks away, but that is the only walking-distance attraction.

The public transport is fantastic in Singapore. Just buy a EZ-link card at the MRT at the airport (15 S$ incl. 5 S$ deposit) and for under 2 S$ you are in the middle of the city centre. You can use your card for every form of transport in Singapore. What ever money is left you get back when you return at the station in the airport.

When you come out of customs clearance at the airport go straight to the information booths that display "buses to the city". Here, you can buy a ticket and the bus will drop you right at your hotel for $7 Sing dollars.

You can see this city in 3 days or less. Take the "Hop on" bus ride and you can get off at many different locations and then jump back on on. The "Boat quay" is an area you must see as we thought it was very trendy and there are loads of places to eat and drink along the river. The night safari was worth it, although be aware thery don't allow you to use flash photograpy. A taxi from our hotel to the "zoo" cost $13 Sing dollars. Buy a ticket at the zoo's information desk and you can get a bus back to your hotel for just $5 Sing dollars.

Stayed at  Raffles The Plaza - Singapore, Singapore.
I love Suntec City, but if I am honest there is no better location than the Swisshotel The Stamford and both Raffle Hotels. You have a superb shopping mall within the ground floors of the Stamford (Raffles Plaza) and easy access to the public transportation system (MRT Station - right under the Stamford / Plaza -- brings you right to the airport if you don't want to take a cab or to most attractions in Singapore). Orchard Rd. is too busy and no fun at all any more.

K Shoda 12 March 2003
Stayed at  Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
Location is very convenient for transit purpose. Only 15 minutes from Changi Airport by free shuttle service.

From the hotel it is a very short walk to the subway station and it is possible to get around the island very easily via the subway. Indeed, it is now even possible to get out to Sentosa Island by a combination of subway and Sentosa Island Bus. The subway and bus system in very good for getting around, but be sure to have the exact change for the buses.

Very good movies, entertainment, and a wide variety of things to do and see in every price range. The food and restaurants are good and the service is generally good to excellent. And, if you are on a budget, the food courts located all over the city in shopping malls and other locals near hotels provide good meals at excellent prices with a very wide range of Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, Indian, Korean, and other style foods.

We have been to Singapore 5 times over the past 2 years and always find something new to do and see. Indeed, it is also a pleasure to revisit some of the places we have been previously to discover different aspects that we were not aware of the first time (e.g, Chinatown, Sentosa Island, etc.). The people are uniformly friendly and helpful. It is a very photogenic city so come prepared to take lots of pictures.

Always a pleasure to visit Singapore. Tip: Try visiting Johor Bahru in Malaysia too. Just get the Express bus from Queen Street, only S$2.40 one way. Take about 45 minutes. When coming back make sure you buy your ticket before you enter the terminal, they don't sell bus tickets in the terminal itself.
