D Ellis 05 March 2003
Stayed at  Allson Hotel Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
The location of the Allson was very good - Raffles Hotel, Museum of Asian Civilisation, Sim Lim Square all very within walking distance. There were two MRT stations - Bugis & City Hall both about 15 minutes walk.

Stayed at  Keong Saik Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
Convenient hotel in Chinatown and easy to get around Chinatown. Also, the ez pass was terrific---mrt--subway--and bus. Also, reflexology treatment was superb. Be sure to ask for senior rates of over 55.

E Quint 03 March 2003
Stayed at  Panorama Regency Hotel - Batam Island (Indonesia), Singapore.
The hotel is not very far from the ferry terminal. Department stores (Robinson & Ramayana), only a couple minutes walking.

T Lok 19 February 2003
Stayed at  Grand Central Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
Singapore is a small city. It is easy to get around by MTR or bus. If needed, Taxi is readily available. If you enjoy city life, you will like Singapore.

Stayed at  Swissotel The Stamford - Singapore, Singapore.
We have been to Singapore four times in the last 12 months. We absolutely love it!!! The people, the food, the shopping, the clean environment, all of Singapore. We haven't done a lot of sight seeing though, choosing mainly to stay in the city centre. The hotel (M Hotel) we stayed at was absolutely fantastic! This was our second time in this hotel! We received exceptional service!

You don't need to spend a lot of money on food in Singapore. The variety of hawker centres are a must to try especially Newton, Lau Pa Sat and Kopitiam.

You must go to Orchard Road for retail therapy. You can start from the bottom and work yourself up the street. Bugis Junction is known for its nightly flea market stalls. It can be very crowded but this just adds to the overall ambience. I love shoes so I usually head to the ground level of Takashimaya at Nge Ann City (Orchard Road). Upscale brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany etc, are also located in this shopping centre.

Taxis are very cheap in Singapore and we used it to get around most of the time. the drivers are usually friendly and very honest. The MRT is very efficient and very cheap!

The thing that impressed me about Singapore is its people. I have never come across such friendly, helpful people. The customer service is just fantastic. They really make sure that the customer is happy. My shopping expeditions have always been great experiences. I'm already planning my next trip!!

B Brazier 18 February 2003
Stayed at  Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Among major Asian cities Singapore is pedestrian friendly so bring a good pair of walking shoes and an umbrella for the rain and sun. It's 1 degree 21 minutes north of the equator so when the sun shines it's strong and hot. A brisk walk along the Singapore river is a great way to shake some jet lag.

Don't be afraid to try some of the foods found in the local food courts. I was pleasantly surprised by both the quality and value of what was available. Look for places where locals eat at lunch time, that's a fair indicator of quality.

L Clark 12 February 2003
Stayed at  Regent Singapore, The - Singapore, Singapore.
Singapore is an oasis of tranquility (except for "shop 'til you drop!), cleanliness, safety and security in an increasingly turbulent world. Its public transport (subway/ underground/metro) is without peer and should serve as an example to othe cities, who can also learn from its congestion charge system (as London is now trying to do - but, unfortunately, on a low tech basis). LSC.

T Hender 12 February 2003
Stayed at  Elizabeth Singapore, The - Singapore, Singapore.
On arriving in KL we regretted not leaving Singapore a few days earlier! It seems like Singapore is locked in a fifteen year old time warp - the hotels and shopping malls pale in comparison to those in KL and Australia and most facilities need a major overhaul.

The Straits Chinese exhibition at the old Asian Civilisations Museum is excellent - if it's anything to go by, the new Museum at Empress Place should be well worth the effort.

We took the train to KL - a scenic and relaxing trip and, at a little over six hours, not much longer than heading out to Changi, flying to KL and then making the long haul from KL airport into town.

S Cunningham 10 February 2003
Stayed at  Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The - Singapore, Singapore.
The Raffles Avenue/Raffles Boulevard area is a bit of a concrete jungle and is a bit quiet at night. The closest MRT station is City Hall which is a few minutes walk but there is a new station under construction near Suntec City.

J Sheppard 09 February 2003
Stayed at  Keong Saik Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
I found that hours could be spent just wandering around Chinatown admiring renovated buildings. MRT system is wonderful. Spotlessly clean, easy changing direction, cheap, and frequent. Couldn't fault it. Singapore itself is also spotless - anyone who could not find oodles to do is hard to please. Good shopping centres all around town within easy reach by MRT or bus.
