Langkawi is good for a family, like us, but it may be a bit quiet for young singles as the nightlife is minimal (near the Beach Garden anyway). You really need a car to get around the island .. it is worthwhile hiring one to visit Kuah town, the famous waterfalls and to generally look around. We took a island hopping tour, which was interesting but crowded with tourists all arriving at the same time on other boats. Our only disappointment was the amount of rubbish that washed up on the beach from time to time .. a real shame in such a beautiful spot.

I did not explore Langkawi much, as I spent all my time alternating between the hotel and the golf course, which is 5 minutes away by car. I sampled all 3 restaurants at the hotel and think they are all very good.

We rented a motorbike from the hotel(its cheaper if you go to the rental places direct)and toured the island. The roads were safe at this time of year and we were able to see lots on our own schedule. There are beautiful sights all over the island from golf courses to waterfalls....Try and check out other hotels to see the diversity they have on the island.

Right on the dot to wherever you want to go. Just a walking distance to the shops in Kuah. You can even plan your journey right thru the windows of your room. Excellent.

Situated on a lovely white sand beach. Only a short drive from the airport, but don't let that put you off - we were not interrupted by aircraft noise. Beautifully kept gardens in the hotel.
Its worth eating outside of the hotel sometimes; we recommend a short walk along the beach past the watersports centre to the Beach Garden Resort - great local food at very reasonable prices.

Langkawi island is a beautiful island. Unfortunately our limited times prevented us from exploring the natural beauty the island. Sea foods are in abundance and cheap provided you know the place. Rent a car or motorcycle to get around the island.

We stayed put on the beach and relaxed for most of the time. Walking down the beach in one direction there were bannana boat rides and jet skis for hire and in the other direction up the beach there were kayaks for rent. There are always taxis available at the resort with fixed prices to go places which is pretty easy. Went into Kuah one day-well worth a look and souvenir shopping. Next time will rent a car and do some exploring because the driving is easy-not much traffic, good roads, and there are 2 car rental places around the corner from the resort that you can walk to easily.

Local Taxis were very cheap. We did not take any official tours but just got a taxi to take us where we wanted to go. Good for tax free shopping.
Golf at the nearby Dutai Golf club was excellent.

It was my first stay in Langkawi and I am sure it will not be the last. The place is delightful and highly relaxing. I have never been bothered by any hawker on the beach or anywhere.
Food is especially delicious and I could not find any restaurant where food disappointed me. All were excellent.
Taxi fares are reasonable and though taxis have no meter, all fares are fixed and clearly indicated.
I did not take any tour, but spent half a day shopping in Kuah, which was enough. There are plenty of stores selling handcraft all around and it seems to me there is no need to compare between them as prices are EXACTLY the same everywhere, with all stores offering a 30% rebate. I could not find as good deals as I did in Bali, hence I would recommend not to buy anything at any price.
My last commment is about the timing. I stayed in Langkawi at about Easter time, ideally between the high season ending in March, and the rain season starting in May. Therefore the hotel and restaurants were almost empty and my stay all the more relaxing.
