Kg Tok Senik is 10 minutes drive from Kuah town for a shopping extravaganza.Pantai Cenang is also about 10 minutes drive away for guests to indulge into local sea food and it has lovely beaches for fantastic sunbathing.

Kuah is nice shopping area, not good for longer stayings because there is no nice beach.
They have nice restaurants over there and some good shopping centers. But it is all a long way from this hotel, because it is outside.

There is lots to see on the Island. Rent a Suzuki 4x4 from the resort and enjoy the sights. Very clean countryside compared to some other islands I have been to.

Langkawi is, as yet, still an unspoilt series of Islands but (horror of horrors!) the Government has plans to spoil it all by developing it as their main holiday destination. It is essential to hire a bike or car to have the freedom to see as much of this fascinating place as one can in the time available. There are tours available, but we did not try them. People are extremely friendly. There is an excellent choice of food at great prices provided one does get out and about.

Stayed at Lanai Langkawi Beach Resort, The - Langkawi, Malaysia.

Restaurants and shops are found easily within walking distance. If you don't want to walk a lot, you can rent a bicycle at the hotel or at other shops.

Nice island, nice beaches, nice nature in the inner parts, very easy and cheap
travelling by car on rent (found with the help of the hotel staff).
Wonderful island droppings for some hours in the many near islands.
Nice restaurants are Cactus and many others of which I forgot the name, but,
anyway, we never got bad meals anywhere, so try as many as possible!

Langkawi is a great place for a holiday, the Lanai has an excellent location but the management is weak and this is not the hotel to
go to to enjoy the best of Langkawi.

Langkawi is a nice, quiet but still a little underdeveloped place. Be sure to take with you the medicine against common cold or food poisoning. If you have been unlucky to catch one of these, the nearest pharmacy is in Kuah town, twenty minutes drive (MR 14 taxi fare) from Pantai Tenang, where we stayed. Otherwise you have to visit an estabilishment called Global Clinic, next to Underwater World at Pantai Cenang, which is rather an unforgotteable experience. After catching cold I went there to get some medication. There were two ladies: one of them a receptionist, the other one a doctor (so it seemed). I asked for some simple, "over the counter" remedy for my condition. The receptionist registered my case, first by filling in a lenghtly registration form, afterwards both ladies tried to enter the information I had given them to the computer. All of this took about twenty minutes, making me regret the idea of using their services. But the end of my visit there went far beyond my expectations: all I got was six lozenges at rip-off price of MR 15 (appr.4 USD), they even couldn't find Aspirine tablets! Taxi service cheap, at fixed fares between locations. During holidays rubbish lays uncollected along the road in Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tenang, as there is almost no pavements, you have to watch your steps. Underwater World: interesting, but poor ventilation, low level of oxygen makes you feeling tired. Nice handicrafts, but about 40% more expensive than at Handicraft Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

There are several daily flights from KL to Langkawi. It is better to rent a cab and drive it yourself if you can get maps and places of interest (available everywhere courtesy Aquarium Seafood). Don't forget to get your driving license along as chauffer-driven rented cabs tend to be expensive.
Restaurants Aquarium Seafood, Par Hai, Waterfront, Coco Beach Seafood were quite good.
3-island hopping and snorkelling at Pulau Payar was a great experience.

Langkawi has very limited shopping, Western food and entertainment facilities. Avoid the crocodile farm and show - the crocodile dance is pathetic and would upset many people (a handler dancing with a crocodile on his shoulders)! The Underwater World facility is excellent as is also the snorkelling or diving trips to Pulau Payar. The Malaysian people are delightful, honest and helpful. Be careful renting hire cars that - even though ordered through the hotel - are often just cars leased out from private owners or friends of the hotel staff. Surely there would be big problems in the event of an accident !
