Good restaurants, markets and shops are near the hotel side.
Only one diving-place at Pulau Payar. The dive Trip was very expensive (250 RM / Person, incl. transfer, lunch and 2 dives).
There are only one Catamaran and no Windsurfer facilities near the beach.

Though seawater of Langkawi is not so clear, it is enough for guests to swim and an atmosphere of the beach is satisfactory.
We have experienced no water activity and have just had a relaxing time on the beach, but it was quite fantastic experiences.
Famous "Barn Thai" restaurant was good atmosphere and good taste. It is a little distant from Pelangi Beach Resort (about 30
minutes by car), and it would be better for guests to hire a car (taxi is available) to get there and back (it is difficult to catch
a taxi near the restaurant).

Hire a car, (or motor bike, if you can drive one!) Island is small enough to get around all the worthwhile sights in a day or two. Avoid the Black Sand Beach especially if the tide is in!! But shops are good here.

The Penai Cenang is overrun with various restaurants. A recently opened place is Jezibells (run by an English couple, Mandy and Jez) which offer Italian cuisine. For chinese food then Sunbay is the place to go. A very good, and inexpensive place is the Go Slow.
As for transport, Taxi is the simplest and best way to travel. Fares are regulated and the cost is minimal.

Recommend the Seven Pools area (above waterfall)- bit of a hike but worth it for the refreshing dip in the waters, plus fun watersliding. Crocodile farm is only good for 5 minutes (don't recommend). Went to see the Datai area, beautiful beach there, much better than Sheraton's beach which was murky and very rocky. We had a rental car to get around which was nice not essential if you want to hang out at hotel and relax.

langkawi is an absolutely awesome place to holiday in.it is so quiet and peaceful and so romantic that even the most boring people will want to write poetry and serenade their companions!lots to see and to shop-it is a dutifree port.bikes on hire very easily.we hired one and were able to see half of langkawi in one day.the langkawi crystal factory is a must.fabulous stuff.then there is the air hangat village and the galeria perdana-a meuseum of all the gifts and awards owned by the prime minister.there are numerous waterfalls and the cave of legends.beautiful boardwalks.must end with kuah jetty to do all the shopping!a must-do is the island hopping trip.it is quite a thrill.get to see the lake of the pregnant maiden-a fresh water lake in the middle of the sea where you can swim as well.there is lots more which we could not do or see because we did not have enough time.really need at least 4-5 days to really see and enjoy the place to its fullest.lots of places to eat.roadside places are great for local cuisine.then there is the beach garden resort for continental cuisine and the most wonderful ambience.people are very friendly and helpful to tourists.a great place to visit.

Plenty of shops and restuarants nearby. Turn left out of Resort, first restuarant on right was very good (can't remember name!) Chinese food. Also Malaysian, Korean, Indian, Pakistani food available. 'Moody's Place' great for breakfast - a real ethnic experience. Lots of car hire places nearby.
