I Stewart 12 July 2003
Stayed at  Kowloon Hotel, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a fabulous destination. Do as much research before you arrive. The most useful is the Octopus Card. We used ours to travel all over Hong Kong from Stanley To Fanling and all the bits between.

Stayed at  Charterhouse, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
If you are a first time traveller, I suggest you go to: Hk island--Wan chai, Causeway bay (for many good food places and bargain shops, go where the locals go). Aberdeen, Stanley (for good natural feel, beaches, take more local pics, of course, ocean park is nice too, but Aberdeen seafood is overrated, skipping is fine). Central(for downtown pics only, >90% shops "ripoff" though, no good food either) Kowloon--mongkok (for buying cheap CDs, games, cheap but good food, super bargain shops can be found here, a place must go!!! Again follow local teenagers for goodies!!) Tsim sha tsui (similar to Central in HK island, only watch and take pics, no buying or eating action should be!!!) Yau ma tei and shum shui poi (similar to mongkok, should go and they are next to mongkok as well) New territory--Shatin, Tuen mun, or Fanling, go if you have time, some sightseeing areas. Lantau island--Po lin temple, also try to find some seafood place, pretty good.

The hotel was not that clear in detailing how we should find things....trams etc, cinema. A map of the locality would have been helpful. Places of interest - we took a long walk to the Star Ferry - now that was fun. The Victoria Peak was good and the evenings in Time Square + cinema were nice too.

R Barry 01 June 2003
Stayed at  Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
It was an interesting area and the walk to the small kiosks selling handicrafts at the Gold Coast Shopping mall was a must see. It is possible to skip dinner at the hotel and do it cheaply at the mall. It's also worth going to the beach outside of the hotel.

C Young 20 April 2003
Stayed at  Charterhouse, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Ocean Park and The Big Budda was great, due to the virus we did not do a lot of sight seeing. The trip was for me and now my wife to get married.

A Ghaffar 03 April 2003
Stayed at  Newton Inn North Point - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
It was my visit for Cisco Exam therefore I couldn't visited many places. But I saw Pacific Place and Times Square and I'm really Impressed.!!!

J Doman 03 April 2003
Stayed at  Bishop Lei International - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Recommend Soho area.

D Stewart 02 April 2003
Stayed at  Wesley, The - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
We visited the outlying islands of Lamma and Cheung Chau. We also visited the Temple Street and Stanley Markets as well as other sites in Central and Wan Chai. We enjoy walking in HK as well as taking local buses and trains but on this occasion used a considerable number of taxis and sampans.

On previous visits to Hong Kong we have visited Macau, and places in and around both Hong Kong and Kowloon and the New Territories.

Hong Kong has an effective transport system and when a person has familiarised themself with it the city and other areas are within easy reach.

Restaurants we visited included local Chinese Thai and Korean.

S Watters 01 April 2003
Stayed at  Rosedale on the Park Hotel Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
The giant Buddha near airport is a must see, rugby sevens were spectacular. Take a ferry. Much missed - little time to see things. Awareness of SARS high in area, no need to be shy about wearing a mask!

B Pejakovic 31 March 2003
Stayed at  Anne Black Guest House (YWCA) - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a shopping paradise. I was at Jade Market, Ladies Market and Night Market at Temple Street. Don't be affraid to bargain or to try some of the food from a food kiosk. Kowloon Park is a nice place to relax. There's a pond with exotic birds, a beautiful aviary and many sculptures. It's quiet, shady and cooler. A touch of fresh air.

I recommend a visit to the space museum. Make sure you have plenty of time because there's an omnimax theatre and a lot of interactive exhibits such as the moonwalk and jetpack ride. This is a funny place for both big and small children. (I'm a big child, age 30). Make time to se the big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery at the Lantau Island. Have plenty of water when you're walking the stairs to and from the Buddha. I had the expencive meal ticket. It was a vegetarian food. VERY GOOD!!

An Octopus Card is very practical if your gonna use buses, ferries, trams and the metro. Taxis are cheap, but few taxi drives can speak much English.
