We visited the Orangutang rehabilitation center and to see free Orangutangs there was a once in a lifetime experience for me and my wife.
Kuching was for us a surprisingly clean and well organized city, we were impressed, pity that we had rainfall nearly every day.
Sarawak Golf club was in very bad condition. Prison Golf club was lousy, Damai Golf and Country club was excellent.

Kuching is a pleasant city to visit. If you go to Semenggok, where orangutangs are rehabilit-
ed,donīt go with an agency for RM40,when you
can take a bus for RM3.The only thing is that
you have to walk 1,5 km. Donīt miss the Cat
Museum. Itīs a museum youīll probably canīt see
anywhere else in the world. Bako National Park
is a must. Many trails in the rainforest. Beware
of the leeches. Donīt miss Sarawak Museum. A good
place a rainy day. Green Hill Corner is a good
place to eat noodles for RM3. Nice staff.

Everything is within the walking distance from the hotel e.g. Cultural Village and waterfalls. Seafod restaurant is 10 to 15 minutes drive. The restaurant will provide complementary shuttles.
The jungle trackking is relatively easy for newcomers. But I think they should label the exotic trees so that the visitors can identify them.
There is no grocery shop around the hotel but you can us the hotel's shop (but a bit expensive and limited selection).

The Bako trip is well worth it, best to stay overnight in the park, otherwise not enough time to really see the wildlife. Much cheaper to arrange yourself through the forestry office than to pay extremely inflated price offered by the travel agencies for two day Bako tours.

Kuching is a very laid back and pretty place, although visiting in the rainy season (roughly Nov - Feb) is perhaps not such a great idea. Not so many tourists around so not all of the tours are running and you have to expect to get a lot of drenchings!
Bako and Gunung Gading National Parks are both well worth visiting, and I heard good things about the longhouse trips. Go for at least 2 days though because it is a long road trip to get there, so the daytrips would be very tiring.

very close to the hotel is the sarawak cultural village, which is very nice to see.

Kuching is 3/4 hour away by bus and is a great city for experiencing the real Malaysia. The hotel organises excursions all over and so even when you are tired of loafing by the pool there is masses to do.

I recommend visiting the Bako National Park but you need to arrange a private taxi which should leave the hotel around 7-8am. The Sarawak Cultural Village is a few minutes walk and well worth the visit.

There was a tour desk at the hotel, and we made arrangements through them. We rented a car for two days and drove around the Kuching area. We also visited the wildlife rehabilitation centre and saw some orang-utan. We spent an entire day wandering around Kuching. It is a very pretty city, but there's not that much to do there. Our favourite day was the day we spent in the Bako National Park. We booked a tour through the hotel and were with four other people. Our guide steered us away from the other groups, and we had some wonderful sightings of probiscus (?) monkey. The scenery in the park is stunning. We can't really recommend any restaurants...We live in Thailand and generally found the food uninspiring in comparison to what we've become accustomed to.
