Taxis and the metro are the best way to get around; they are very reasonably priced. Best tour is undoubtedly the night safari and I would recommend a visit to Changi prison before it is demolished.
Eating out in Singapore is the best in Asia and I would recommend Little India and the waterfront restaurants which serve delicious pepper and chili crab.

When you come out of customs clearance at the airport go straight to the information booths that display "buses to the city". Here, you can buy a ticket and the bus will drop you right at your hotel for $7 Sing dollars.
You can see this city in 3 days or less. Take the "Hop on" bus ride and you can get off at many different locations and then jump back on on. The "Boat quay" is an area you must see as we thought it was very trendy and there are loads of places to eat and drink along the river. The night safari was worth it, although be aware thery don't allow you to use flash photograpy. A taxi from our hotel to the "zoo" cost $13 Sing dollars. Buy a ticket at the zoo's information desk and you can get a bus back to your hotel for just $5 Sing dollars.

While we were in Singapore, we took "Heartland of New Asia, Singapore" tour with RMG tours. We were picked up, and brought back to the lobby of the hotel. Suntec city was luster of futuristic gleaming glass and steel buildings located in the heart of Singapore. This might be a good place to shop, but we wouldn't want be there. It was too ice cold for warm blooded human being to be there very long.
We loved a visit to Malay village where traditional lifestyle in Dampuang Community during 50's and 60's of Singapore was on display. Since Singapore did not become nation till 1965, 50's was her prehistorical time!

Always a pleasure to visit Singapore. Tip: Try visiting Johor Bahru in Malaysia too. Just get the Express bus from Queen Street, only S$2.40 one way. Take about 45 minutes. When coming back make sure you buy your ticket before you enter the terminal, they don't sell bus tickets in the terminal itself.

I would recommend a trip along down the Singapore River. This is a very lively multi cultural area of Singapore. A real mixture of the old and the new. The CBD skyscrapers dwarf the old style buildings on the waters edge giving a clear indication of Singapore's past and present exsistence.
Also did a harbour cruise to Kuso Island which was very good. The Philips Channel is a sight. I have never seen so many container vessels but Kuso Island is well worth a visit to see the Chinese Temple. Little India is also worth walking around.
One good recommendation for food is to go the Asian Food Court on Orchard Road. You have lots of choices and the prices are very, very cheap. It really is an experience.
Just walking through some of the shopping malls on Orchard St is a worthwhile exercise but take a large bag as your bound to end up taking advantage of the extensive and cheap range of electrical and clothing ranges on offer!!!

The location of the Allson was very good - Raffles Hotel, Museum of Asian Civilisation, Sim Lim Square all very within walking distance. There were two MRT stations - Bugis & City Hall both about 15 minutes walk.
