Pattaya is a bustling resort, there was plenty to see and do for us as a family. We spent some time on the beach (but do not expect the beach to match those of Phuket or Koh Samui). Plenty of shopping and too many good restaurants to count.
Our daughters loved shopping in the Royal Garden Mall, Festival Mall and the Mike Shopping Plaza. I would also recomend Nang Nual Restaurant at the end of walking street for excellent sea food.
We visited the Tiffany transvestite cabaret which was well done and a good show and make a visit to Pattaya Park (Water Park) which was OK but looking a little tired.
Overall a good destination and we enjoyed it as a family, however the nightlife and bars may be a little too in your face for some.

Tropical gardens near the hotel on Highway 3 is a terrific visit and value. For family or just one adult, well done and well maintained. A great introduction to Thailand and its environment.

We have two children ages 6 and 9 and were looking for things to do with them that would keep us away from the "lively nightlife" Pattaya is known for. We found enough to keep us busy after a lazy day at the hotel pool or beach. Things to do are go-kart driving on Thep Prasit Road, Mini golf on Tappraya Road, visit the Ripley's Museum at the Royal Garden Plaza (next to the Marriott Hotel). Lots of places to eat at the Royal Garden Plaza. There are plenty of water activities to choose from and our children loved the jet skis. There is shopping at the Outlet Mall on Sukhumvit Road next to the Tesco/Lotus store. On our way back to Bangkok we stopped at the Tiger Zoo in Sriracha. It is a big place and we rushed through it in an hour but really needed more time if we wanted to see all the shows. It was a nice way to break up the 2 1/2 hour drive back to Bangkok.

If you intend to do lots of shopping, stay in the South/Central Pattaya area. You can practially walk the entire street shops. If you prefer a quiter retreat, Jomtien beach would be a better option. Taxis (tuk-tuk) from Central Pattaya to Jomtien can cost about THB100 per couple.

I haven't been to Pattaya before and I first landed in Jomtien Beach. I found it very beautiful and less crowded than Pattaya Beach. I would suggest visitor to stay in Jomtien Beach for their holiday. Although it is not as well developed as Pattaya beach, you can enjoy a quiet time and a less crowded environment.

Pattaya is very big, I think at the beach beyond Pattaya hill is better than Pattaya beach. Too many motorboats. I visit the Elephant park with include Thaidans and Botanic garden. It was very nice. I also play golf at Phoenix Golf and Country Club it was very fun but it was tough in the heat (39 c).

The beach and water park was nice although the theme park has seen its better days. A short cab ride puts you at Walking Street. It is nice to be a little out of town although like I said before I had a friend with me and did not need to make use of the bounty in town. Food is pretty much what ever you may want, KFC to local foods.

We enjoyed visiting Pattaya again - having lived there in 1969/70. Of course the change is incredible - but we were prepared and not too shocked. It was fun to see the change - but a little sad to realize what has been lost.
We enjoyed visiting Watchaimongkol Market in addition to downtown Pattaya. We visited Pattaya Park and enjoyed the view of the area from the tower. We had a very nice visit to the Pattaya Elephant Village. We were there in the morning and thus, missed the shows (and the crowds) but thoroughtly enjoyed our elephant trek. It is a nice leisurely walk thru the surrounding countryside.
We did purchase the video tape that was made of our trek and were surprised to find that it included the shows that we missed seeing live. The only complaint about the video is that we were told it was in the US format and it wasn't. However we were able to have it converted for a reasonable price when we returned to the States.
We only had a day and a half in Pattaya and therefore didn't have time to enjoy any of the water activities - tho the offerings are extensive. The air conditioned bus from Bangkok (Eastern Bus Terminal) was very comfortable and efficient -and a good value (less than $5.00) .

Pattaya is pretty sleazy with the majority of visitors being single males. Certainly not one of the better beaches in Thailand. The town was very quiet in August when we visited. Lots of good golf courses nearby. Pattaya airport is also worth a look if anyone has an interest in the Vietnam war.

We only spent two nights in Pattaya, but found it a lively place with plenty to see and do. It is in many respects similar to Patong Beach in Phuket.
Good selection of restaurants and bars - plenty of seafood! The Lobster Pot is probably one of the more expensive seafood restaurants, but good quality food.
It is easily accessible from Bangkok by airport limousine, which was a quick and comfortable ride.
