Situated on a lovely white sand beach. Only a short drive from the airport, but don't let that put you off - we were not interrupted by aircraft noise. Beautifully kept gardens in the hotel.
Its worth eating outside of the hotel sometimes; we recommend a short walk along the beach past the watersports centre to the Beach Garden Resort - great local food at very reasonable prices.

The waters in Langkawi are beautifully warm and the beach at Pentai Tengah is considered one of the best.... true. Although, beware of jellyfish as there are no signs at Langkawi Village Resort to warn you of the dangers and as the water is "murky" due to the constant swell and fine coral sand being churned up you will not see approaching danger until it is too late.
For snorkelling your only real option is to visit the Palau Payar Marine Park. An enjoyable day out with reasonable snorkelling although be prepared for the amount of debris floating around.... that scratchy/nippy feeling on you leg could equally be a crisp packet as a small grouper checking out the food possibilities!!! Scuba diving is offered here, if you are a serious and experienced diver you will probably know better than to bother as there is no great variety and the visibility is relatively poor.

The hotel is not within walking distance of any restaurants, shops or beaches, so hiring motorbikes, which can be done reasonably cheaply through the hotel, is recommended. Great places to visit include Cenang beach and Barn Thai restaurant, which is built on stilts in the mangrove and accessed by a 400m footbridge, from which you can spot monkeys, monitor lizards and other wildlife. Good value trips, which you can book from the hotel (or get even cheaper if you ask around), include snorkeling in the marine park, where we swam with tropical fish and baby sharks, and a boat trip in the mangrove, during which we visited an uninhabited island and had to chase monkeys off the beach before we could sunbathe.

Taxis are the only way to get around on Langkawi. They are cheap and barginable though. Right across the road from the hotel is a brand new snake sanctuary that was not only informative but a lot of fun to visit. You can even see people kiss the head of a common cobra.

Langkawi is a most beautiful island with stunning scenery. For anyone wanting a simple beach holiday it takes some beating but there is also a lot to do and see. A trip to Gunung Raya, the highest point of the island is a must for the views and a day island hopping on the small boats is very rewarding with breath-taking views of the many uninhabited islands close by. Kuah (pron Kwa)is worth exploring and it has some very good craft stores. The island has not yet succombed to the developers and has many interesting beach bars and local food outlets which are all worth a visit to make your holiday more lively and memorable. The locals are very freindly and helpful. If you can locate Kelly or Man, two exceptioal guys, you will soon be introduced to the local folk.

Langkawi is a very peaceful ( at present) location and there really is not much to see and do, however I would stronly recommend hiring a car - it gives you more freedom for eating out etc. One place to definetly visit is Gunung Raya - the highest point of Langkawi. Once you are at the top of Gunung Raya the views are beautiful. Do be careful though as sometimes the road to the top is closed.
If you go to Tanjung Rhu beach at low tide it is nice to walk out along the sandbanks to the islands at low tide - but you need to be there at exactly low tide otherwise you cannot make it all the way over to the island. The best meal we ate was at the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort (in their coffee shop), we had lunch there and the chefs there do a wonderful job with the ingredients and presentation of their food.

There is very little in Kuah. The beaches are absolutely useless. It is very cheap but very little happens there and I would not stay there again. It is worth knowing perhaps that full fare tickets from Langkawi to Penang by air cost only £9 single with MAS.

Langkawi's shopping and other man-made attractions are a waste of time. By far the greatest charm is its long white peaceful beaches and mountain streams. But the emergence of Jet Skis is threatening to end this tranquility. Should they become popular on Cenang or Tengah beaches, there will no longer be any reason to travel to this destination. Go now!

Among all the beaches, Tangjung Rhu is the fabulous one. Seven wells is also worth-seeing.
For the P. P. Island (coral island), although they offer 3 packages in different price range, there's actually no difference among these three. So, there's really no need to take the most expensive one.
