Stayed at  Langkawi Village Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi is a beautiful destination, and I highly recommend it for singles and families. We enjoyed playing on the banana boat, and especially liked renting the boat for 4 hours. We had our small covered boat, and we went to pregnant maiden lake (loved it!), fed the eagles on the ocean (amazing), and pulled up onto a deserted island (peaceful).

We rented scooters and bought a map, touring the island and stopping at our own leisure. We watched the sun set and enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Lighthouse restaurant, and enjoyed a traditional meal at the mangrove restaurant (Bahn Thai - I believe). We also had amazing food at the seafood stall just down from the Dublin Pub and the resort.

Try the Ban Thai for a dinner one evening - it i a bit further down the road after Pelangi Beach Resort. The location is unique and you can tour traditional Malay houses.

Rent a scooter and tour the island - go to Tanjung Rhu which is the best beach. Take a tour in the rainforest and spot the monkeys - but watch out not to bring any smelly food with you in your bag because the small sweet monkeys WILL attack you!!!

Stayed at  Sheraton Perdana Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Great place and cheap duty free products available. The Pulau Payar Marine Park is a must do and so was the cable car (not for the weak hearted). Beatiful locations and cheap local taxis can let you explore a lot of the island which is not very big.

Beautiful unspoilt island. Excellent restaurant next door, the Matahari. Also the Lighthouse, only a short walk away.

Stayed at  Holiday Villa Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Lankawi is a nice destination for relaxation. Pantai Tengeh is a really nice beach but Cenang seems to be busier and has more restaurants/bars etc but no shade on beach in day.

Not many activities etc on Langkawi. We went on a 1/2 day island hopping trip which was fun but the islands were a bit poor. The aquarium was poor. The waterfalls are not really worth visiting in dry season according to locals. Lovely sunsets!!

A lot of places around which can be reached in half an hour time.. water fall, beaches, historic places, galleries and a lot more fun if you want to have fun.. also on shopping... sea activities are also good around here.

Langkawi is a beautiful place to visit. They have more than 5 beautiful waterfalls, clean beaches, good food and not to forget on their night life.

Since it was a short vacation, we rent a car. It was very convenient as we get the car at the jetty point itself. We took a map with us. The map helps us a lot to move from one place to another.

If you love "ikan bakar" (BBQ Fish), it is best for you to go to "Pantai Chenang" (Chenang Beach). Otherwise, there are a lot of stalls selling seafood with very reasonable price in Kuah town. As for accommodation, the scenery at Awana Porto Malai Resort very peaceful and at reasonable price.

From Langkawi Jetty, one can go to Thailand with one hour ferry ride. Of course, when we reach Saturn, Thailand, we need to take a trip down to the beaches. Saturn is like a small cowboy town.

Stayed at  Tanjung Rhu Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
This was my second visit to Langkawi having previously stayed at the Palangi Beach Resort. Tanjung Rhu at the north of the Island has some of the most breathtaking scenery and certainly one of the finest beaches on the island. It was easy to visit places such as the Summer Palace and Oriental Village. We dined at the restaurants at the resort which all offer different cuisine at reasonable prices. The resort provided transportation to and from the airport.

Rented a car for a day and used cabs. Rental place delivered the car. Went to Oriental Village and the waterfalls, Black Sand Beach, the mangroves, Underwater World, Langkawi Crystal, the night market and scuba diving at Pulau Payar. Recommend eating at Casa Del Mar and Pelangi Beach Resort right next door. Also ate at Prawn Village and Thailand Restaurant - ok.

1. Langkawi is a beautiful island. There's much to see other than the beach, so I'd recommend atleast a week if you want to have a nice holiday in Langkawi.

2. We only had 3 nights at Casa Del Mar. We reached the hotel in the afternoon on Wednesday, and spent the day recovering from jet lag and planning the next 3 days.

3. On Thursday we rented a car for 60 RM and drove around the island. There is a single road which circles around the island, so no bothering with detailed road maps! We visited The Cable Car, which takes you to the top of the tallest mountain in the area, and offers a breathtaking view. We then visited the Seven Wells Waterfalls, which involves a steep 30 minute climb up a hill which will leave you exhausted. After coming back down, we enjoyed coconut water....the largest coconuts I've ever seen!

Next, we visited the Cultural Crafts complex for Malaysia handicrafts. I think it was a very good place to do some serious shopping. You can also bargain! The prices are reasonable.

We then kept hunting for what is known as the Black Sand Beach, but couldn't find it. Next was the Air Hangat Village, where we saw the hot springs, which were a big letdown, as it was just like a small puddle spewing out warm water. But we did get excellent foot massages for 10 RM each. Highly Recommended.

We then visited the Tanjung Rhu resort, as we had heard a lot about the beach there. It was very isolated, and altough the beach was gorgeous, I prefer seeing a few people on the beach! We also visited the Kuah town on our way back. There is a shopping mall called Langkawi fair, near the jetty point. The Langkawi Eagle at the jetty point was fantastic. It was much bigger than what I had imagined. By the time we finished with this exhausting day trip, it was almost dinner time.

We went to the Pelangi Beach Resort next to Casa Del Mar for dinner. It has several restaurants...we went to Spice Market, as it had the most vegetarian options, and we are vegetarians. The food was good, but extremely spicy, even for our Indian taste.

4. The next day we went on a day trip, which was already planned, to the Pulau Payar Island for snorkelling. The price was 80 RM per person, which includes the ferry ride to the island, which is 90 nautical miles from Kuah, and lunch. I suggest that you consider buying your own, or renting better equipment from them for 10 RM.

It was an excellent experience overall, the island was beautiful and the water was very clear. We saw innumerable baby sharks (which don't bite) and also shark feeding. We also saw a barracuda. The water around the island is rich in marine life. I do suggest however, tthat if you are vegetarian, you tell the tour operator in advance, cos they only had chicken for lunch. By the time we returned, it was almost 6 pm, and we decided to hit the beach for some water sports, like parasailing. We planned to do jet-skiing etc the following day, but didn't end up doing it.

For dinner, we had dinner by the beach at Casa Del Mar, which was included in our package. The food was good, and the so was the service.

5. The next day was out last day in Langkawi. We had appointments in the Casa Del Mar Spa for Aroma Massage. It was pretty good, altough my wife liked it more than I did. Very pricey though! We then lazed around on the beach and left for the airport at 5 pm.

6. Pentai Cenang beach is the best place to stay in Langkawi. There are a lot of other hotels/resorts/motels on the beach, and also excellent restaurants. We especially liked a Indian place called Papadum's, which serves very cheap, yet genuine, home-made south-Indian cuisine. The people are very nice too. The waiter was ecstatic on receiving a 2 ringgit tip on our 20 ringgit check. We really liked the place. We also did a bit of shopping at the stores along the beach.
