Langkawi is a beautiful island. We took two tours: visiting Pulau Payar island and "Mangrove tour". All other places were visited by taxis which are quite cheap there.
I especially recommend to visit the Oriental village (it is a shopping center) not for shopping (it is expensive there), but for a cable car ride. You will get the spectacular panoramic view point from the top of mountain.

We hired a car one day and circumnavigated the island, stopping at Tanjung Rhu beach for lunch and swimming. We also walked up to the seven wells water fall and rode on the cable car. The cable car held beautiful sights and was clean and new. We went to a Malaysian local art and craft store and also to Cenang beach for lunch. Great Island, great swimming and lovely scenery.

We found some excellent restaurants nearby - Bon Ton, T.Jay's & The Lighthouse - breakfast - Breakfast Cafe & Red Tomato. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurants as we were keen to explore elsewhere but our son enjoyed the food from the room service menu some evenings.
We hired a car from the restaurant across the road from the hotel - 6 days RM600 - 1.6ltr - excellent value - enabled us to have a good look around the island. Joined the island tour that took us to the Marine Park well organised, supplied lunch, only complaint was there were too many people trying to enjoy the same spot.
For those who want to avoid the crowds swim to the left of the pier - you'll be herded to the right because that's where they give you lunch. Good selection of tropical fish but not much colour in coral. Our 13 year old son enjoyed the go kart track near the airport, shopping in Kuah, jet skiing, snorkelling at the marine park, sliding down the water falls at Telaga Tujuh, cable car ride nearby, bird park, underwater world & snake park.

Langkawi is a great place to visit. The island is filled with legends, and the is a story behind every interesting place you visit. I got the chance to visit the crocodile farm...only to know that it is the largest in Malaysia. I have never seen so many crocodile in my life. Shopping is another attraction in Langkawi, most everything are cheaper than most anywhere in Malaysia.

We took a tour to Payar Island and would recommend it. There are various and lots of fish and you could feed them! Our children enjoyed it the most. Also, night market tour is good to experience.
We went on Friday, to Kua town by taxi - as the night market tour bus was already fully booked - but it was not inconvenient at all. Hotel concierge arranged us the taxi and the return fee to and from Kua town was MR40, and it would have costed us the same, if we, 2 adults, would have gone on the tour. Kua town itself is good to see, apart from the heavenly Tanjung Rhu once, there are many people, shops, and local restaurants.

The beach from this hotel boasts truly extensive, soft and white sand, far out as the eye can see. Overlooking the sea's sparkling horizon are some islands which are pretty easy to access via a boat trip out to sea. Langkawi's pretty hot a place to visit so bring your suntan lotions and hats. Besides there, the local food is spicy, cheap and delicious and sight-seeing wise, there are some great historical places to visit.

Got around by taxi. Very expensive after midnight (4 times more expensive than before midnight) I don't think that should be allowed, as not allowed in K.L. Double fare would be more reasonable.
Bon Ton restaurant very impressive.

Beach in front of this village is better than Pantai Cenang. In Pantai Cenang, you will get hurt on your feet if you swim without sandal due to broken shell.
I recommend you to stay Kuah town one or two day and you can enjoy duty free shopping and batik art. To stay at Kuah, City bay view hotel will be your best choice.
If you are a toy lover, please drop by the shop "original craft" which is located in near from underwater world (not the same building).

Langkawi is a beautiful island. My main reason for visiting was to complete my PADI Open Water dive qualification. I did this at the Pro Dive centre, Pantai Cenang. They had highly qualified dive instructors and were very professional. Other places visited included the rice museum, and the night market.
