Great sights and a lot to see. Things are cheap so bargin like mad. Everyone will try and sell you something. It can get annoying at times. But still a fun place with a lot to see and do.

Siem Reap is a busy rural Cambodian town. We felt safe in the streets, even at night. People were friendly and helpful, and language was not a barrier to having a good time. The only draw back to the wonder of Angkor Wat (itself absolutely amazing) was the CONSTANT attempts to sell water, books ... it made our first day there rather miserable to say the least. Get past this, and Angkor Wat is worth the visit. We strongly suggest 3 relaxing days touring the complex rather than a shorter stay. Give yourself a day to see the town too.

Siam Reap... Go now before the tourists over-run it. We saw so many new hotels going up there it wasn't funny.

Having said that, it's a very cool place to hang out now. Aside from the temples, which everyone comes to see anyway and are mind-blowing, there are some really cool bars (how half the people in the Angkor What? got to write on the ceiling I don't know..), check out the Muppets in the Red Piano, and shoot pool in the Ivy.

It's great place to chill out there for a few days.

Would recommend taking a moped out to the Artisans d' Angkor silk farm, which was very interesting, as you get to see the whole process from A to Z, and there's some great stuff to buy.

Recommend getting a guide US$20-25 (Vantha at 012 630 841 was very good experienced guide with good english (was a translator for the UN) - he can even arrange an air-conditioned car (nice!) which is well worth esp to visit the temples on the out skirts of the city). Sun rise over Ankor Wat and Bayon (guide and car ready to meet you at 5am!!) was fantastic. Recommend food at Ankor Century Hotel - cultural show in the evening is really nice. Check out the Artisans Workshop. It is well worth (if you have the time) to go to Bentay Seri on the outskirts - abt 35km away - intricate carvings. Also visit the floating village for a taste of the life of the ppl there....very nice with an interesting drive on the "dancing road"...

The air-con speedboat ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap costs about US$25. Worth the trip with good sceneries if you don't mind the 5 hours journey. Give yourself 3 to 4 days to tour the Angkor temples, silk farm, markets and lots more in Siem Reap.

We loved Siem Reap. We had a great guide, Khieu Thy, who has an extensive knowledge of temples & Khmer history, he also is passionate about his people & country, which makes his tour even more involving and interesting. Thy can be contacted through the Angkor Village hotel.

The floating village on Tonle Sap south of Siem Reap is amazing and well worth seeing, particularly at sun set. Chez Sop'Hea is a fabulous little restaurant across the street from the main entrance to Angkor Wat. The owner Mattiew is a lovely French man who is married to 'Sop Hea'. Don't bother with the menu - just ask him what he recommends for the day. Beautiful grilled fish marinated in Khmer spices, chicken, steak etc. Meals are served with a tasty, fresh salad and bread. Wine is good there too. Lunch for 4 people cost us US$30.

If you are a Coconut fan or you just fancy yummy milk shakes & ice cream (good on a hot day) .. the best coconut milkshakes & ice creams can be found at a berger joint called Angkor Chum. Just look for the golden arches ('M' stands for 'Manith' - the owners name not what we usually associate it with) #23, Str.Sivutha, Kum Svaydongkum, Srok Seam Reap. He also sells Tshirts in every colour proudly showing the golden arches of Angkor Chum.

I think Cambodia is a place that worth of visiting. The first day morning, we waked up early to Angkor Wat to see the sun-rise. Although it was early yet, it was rather hot. But the sun-rise sence was very very wonderful, especially when the sun rised above the temple we can see the temple with its shape and with the sun above it in the calm pond infront of the temple...Oh, I can't say how it was.

Then, we went to visit Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm etc. At the last day of the 2-day-tour, some of our group went to see a lake (I'm sorry to forget its name because I didn't go) , me and the others went to a market in Siem Reap, this place was interesting too. There we bought some stone-pictures of Apsara dancing with 12USD/one that is 120USD/one at the hotel.

My friend who went to visit the lake said that it was not worth of seeing and above all, the road lead to the lake is so terrible that every one felt car-sick. He said that the ones who went to the market was so lucky. Before the trip, I was very afraid of whether Cambodia is safe or not but at last, there was just an interesting time we had there.

We booked the tour through a tour agency named Locomo which is held by japanese and cambodian. We found it in the internet. They have Japanese-speaking guides too. We had to pay 40USD/person for 2-day-tour included guides., entrance tickets, delicious lunch at good restaurants. During the tour, there was one night we enjoyed dinner and Cambodia dances at a restaurant named Ankor Village. It was an interesting and nice place.

Fantastic ! Enough has alreay been written about the temples of Angkor, but too little attention is paid to the lovely town of Siem Reap and the wonderful Khmer people. Being amongst such beautiful & optimistic people despite all they've been thru is very humbling.

Do go to the Made in Cambodia shop opposite the old market - it's aim is to support the homeless and disabled (mainly those maimed by landmines) by training them in traditional crafts and enabling them to sell their crafts for a fair price. All proceeds from the shop go into training and employment programs. For traditional Khmer massage, go to the Angkor Blind Massage on Route 6. Only US$3 per hour and all to a very good cause.

Don't miss the Vietnamese floating village trip - great to see sunset on Tonle Sap lake, but the sights and bumps of the journey to and from are also unmissable Chivit Thai on Wat Bo Road for great Thai food and mellow atmosphere. Kampuccino Pizza on the main road just before the old market serves excellent Mediterranean food - appetisers at US$2 and mains at around US$3.50.

one of the best things about the hotel is the location. it's in town--walking distance to the central market , restaurants and shops...and far away from the package tourists (they stay in the mega-hotels on the road in from the airport.) siem reap has a real "wild west" feeling to it. it's still not overrun by tourists (most package tourists don't venture into the town.) the hotel is an ideal spot for independent travelers who want to experience more of the flavor of this cambodian town. the hotel arranged a car and guide for our ankor wat sightseeing, so everything was hassle-free.

Beautiful. Angkor temples are an Asian must to see. Try to rent a motorbike (with or without driver) and to avoid taxi, which are extremely expensive. Prices proposed must be negotiated 50%. A good restaurant is Greenhouse. Avoid the restaurants around central market.
