Plenty of great restaurants in the wan chai district just a short walk from the hotel, and some great shopping areas to be found if you take the time to walk down the side streets.

Best time to go shopping in Hong Kong. Great prices, great discounts and for once the shopkeepers actually smile.

Great shopping. Beware the "custom tailors" every few feet or so when shopping the busier streets. They will try to take advantage. Merchandise is not that cheap in Hong Kong, but it is certainly abundant.
Transportation via taxi or subway is very cheap and easy. I think you'll like it. I did.

Went to Hong Kong to shop and eat. Took the Airport Express train downtown from the airport. Express shuttle bus dropped me at the hotel door; this is the most efficient and economical way to go. I walked everywhere else that I went because the Regal (Hong Kong) has a good central location. Eating on a budget came easy at the Super City on the basement level of Time Square. Had several eye glasses made in 25 hours; top designer brands price 3x lower than US.

My visit to HK was brief; done most of my shopping around MongKok area. Went to several night markets, visited some restaurants ...
Took the transit system (really convenient to get around town).

Caught MTR , ferry and bus . The Lonely Planet is a fairly good guide for getting around but sometimes it may be best to ask a local where the best place to shop would be. Had a look at Temple Street Market and the Ladies Market but it wasn't the cheapest.

This year we had planned to take a ferry to one of the islands (Cheung Chau), however the typhoon prevented us; Instead we decided to explore areas of Victoria Island we hadn't been to: Sheung Wan - not very exciting except for the odd alley with its crafts & trades or if you are interested in dry food/apothecary stores. On the way back to Central & the Star Ferry pier, we came by chance upon Cat Street & its antique dealers, some very high-priced (and highly reputable) & others with very good selections of all sorts of antiques & curios. We were very surprised to find quite reasonable prices for good quality things (such as carved glass snuff bottles, marble rocks, etc.) This area several levels above the big shopping streets (Connaught, etc) looks "lived in" and Chinese.

Causeway Bay is a shoppers paradise. Prices are much higher than I expected in this Asian city.
Check out the various fruit, vegetable and seafood markets in the area Taste the foods the are prepared right in front of you as you walk by various eateries. If you are looking for better bargains, visit the Stanley Beach area on Hong Kong island.
