Good computer/tech equipment can be bought at the Mong Kok Computer Center, and if you want a cheap multi region DVD player USD 50, you can buy a non branded one at the evening street market which runs parallel to Nathan road.

Temple street night market has good buys from electronic goods to toys to clothing. Haggling is highly recommended and expected by the vendors.

Stunning location vibrant and full of activity if potentially very hot and humid and a little soulless. Publice transport very efficient and cheap. Lots of nice walks around the peak. Don't buy anything from 'cheap' electrical shops without checking prices back home. Definitely paid too much for a digital camera!

Be prepare for a very fast paced and crowded city. I thought New York had a fast pace but Hong Kong was even faster. The Temple street market looks better on TV than in real life, but is worth the trip. Get off at Jordan station, exit the station and turn right and walk down 3 street's. Take the subway that's an experience unto itself. I found the subway very easy to use. The direction and stations are marked on a electronic map in the car itself.

Hong Kong would have to be one of my favourite cities and certainly the place to go if you're a shopaholic like myself. The value you get for your money is worth the expense (ie. airfare) to go there and shop. Shopping at the markets such as the one in Mongkok and Wanchai is a wonderful way of experiencing and getting to know Hong Kong. I've always found the place clean and orderly and riding the MTR is the best way to get around. After returning home from a trip, I always look forward to my next visit.

HK during this period of post-Sars is looking to do business. Taxi driver will make a deal to take you to the airport for HK $150 vs the usual HK $300. The shuttle train will cost you $90 plus taxi to your hotel @$30 if you take the bus will cost you HK $33.
Electronics shopping is still great if you know how to bargain hunt and can forget about warranty. Most shops do not post their prices, be prepared to walk if the opening price is higher than what they offered at Fortress (a large chain store that posts their prices). Almost any store can beat Fortress prices but only Fortress and few others are true authorized dealers.

If you are a first time traveller, I suggest you go to:
Hk island--Wan chai, Causeway bay (for many good food places and bargain shops, go where the locals go). Aberdeen, Stanley (for good natural feel, beaches, take more local pics, of course, ocean park is nice too, but Aberdeen seafood is overrated, skipping is fine). Central(for downtown pics only, >90% shops "ripoff" though, no good food either)
Kowloon--mongkok (for buying cheap CDs, games, cheap but good food, super bargain shops can be found here, a place must go!!! Again follow local teenagers for goodies!!)
Tsim sha tsui (similar to Central in HK island, only watch and take pics, no buying or eating action should be!!!)
Yau ma tei and shum shui poi (similar to mongkok, should go and they are next to mongkok as well)
New territory--Shatin, Tuen mun, or Fanling, go if you have time, some sightseeing areas.
Lantau island--Po lin temple, also try to find some seafood place, pretty good.

HK is a good tourist destination, I have been a resident four years ago for the previous 12 years so had done all the 'sights and tours'.
Good traditional English breakfast at 'Olivers' 4th floor for HK$20, a bargain.
See above for Buffets'.
Bought a Canon G5 digital camera with 256mb MC at Williams Photo Store 3rd Floor Princess Bldg Central, had shopped around Causeway Bay and got this at the same negotiated price (HK$5700) which is excellent as Williams is one of the few trustworthy camera shops in HKG, watch out for shady camera shops in Causeway Bay and Kowloon (especially those who try to pass on their own printed worthless 'worldwide guarantee' when selling parallel imports). Only camera shop I would trust in Causeway Bay is 'Leading Centre' 59 Percival St where they display their prices on the camera (they negotiate a little lower) I nearly bought the G5 there at the same price but thought I can always go back to 'Williams Photo' if I had any problems and be sure of assistance. However I did buy a Bruan 1508 electric shaver at Leading Centre for HK$238 (same shaver in Sogo Dept store was HK$319) a good saving (I didn't bother to negotiate a few dollars off the shaver as it was a very good price.) One Causeway Bay Camera Shop offered me the G5 package for HK$5200 but I didn't trust them after seeing their 'worldwide guarantee' and refused to deal with them. Incidentally Singapore is supposed to be cheaper for cameras (maybe it's how you negotiate).

It was an interesting area and the walk to the small kiosks selling handicrafts at the Gold Coast Shopping mall was a must see. It is possible to skip dinner at the hotel and do it cheaply at the mall. It's also worth going to the beach outside of the hotel.
