We visited A Farmosa, Christ Church, Mahkota Shopping Centre and Jonkers Street. Jonkers Street is full of great bargains! A very unique night market with many interesting shophouses too!

This is my second time back to the ancient city Melaka. We opted to stay at Hotel Puri due to its fantastic location along Heeren Street - reputed to be the oldest street in Melaka. It's close proximity to Jonkers' Street, the historical district & Mahkota Parade Shopping Mall means savings on Taxis cost to these places. The traveller would like to note that travelling by taxi within the town is expensive at a whopping RM10 even for short trips. The bus terminal have been shifted to Melaka Central, at the northern end of the town. We paid for RM 15 for our taxi trip to Hotel Puri.
Other than that, it was a fantastic trip as we spent time exploring the historic places that Melaka has to offer.

Melaka is an old city with a lot of Historical significance. Try the antique shops along Jonker street and Christchurch is definitely worth a visit to see the tombs of the early dutch settlers buried under your feet in the main sanctuary.

For me the most outstanding thing about Melaka is not the cultural shows, the heritage walk or even the food. All of these were good. But the most memorable to me was the night market at China town.
Imagine a mile long narrow street jam packed with people and stalls selling all kinds of foodstuffs, clothes, homewares and interesting knick knacks that you cannot find elsewhere. Yeah you may say that you can find that at night markets everywhere. The Melaka night market is different. Along the street you will find many Chinese associations. And some event is always happening at these associations. We found three that were conducting karaoke sessions and one that was conducting a dance class - in full view of the street. And you are welcome to go in, to watch or even to join them.
And a bit morbid, but interesting nonetheless, there are about 2 or 3 funeral homes holding wakes for the dearly departed. The interesting and the morbid at the same place, the alive and the dead mingling. Never experienced that before until I went to the night market in Melaka.

Our first visit to Melaka, we loved walking the historical sites and the old streets. We visited the museum on the boat and the children loved riding on rick shaws.
Jonker Street was a wonderful maze of antique shops. Great atmosphere.
We found a great restaurant called Walkers just off Jonkers Street, and after dinner there we really enjoyed the night market. A great family weekend.

As I had been to the tourist sites in Malacca, my theme for this visit was primarily confined within the walking proximity of the old Malacca town. Had a deliberate time to admire the Peranakan influence which characterise the enamel tiles of the shophouses exterior. Lots of Peranakan food outlets along the street of Jln Tan Cheng Lock. Discover for yourself! There are countless of small hawker-vendors in various corners of the old Malacca town. As for an evening drink, try the Geographer Room, only less than 3-minute walk from Hotel Puri. Incidentally, the Geographer Room was also featured in a HK movie .

I drove up to Malacca from Singapore. Driving time is approximately 3 hours. Jonker St is a must see in Malacca for all the Peranakan antiques and also for the chicken rice balls.

Malaka is a nice very small town where you feel the old days of Malaysia remaining. You can visit the whole city within a day and don't miss the night market, close on tuesdays. The antiques are pricey (more than in singapore!), the geographer bar on the main street is great and you will find two or three nice restaurants if you don't want to eat in the street hawkers.

My 3rd visit to Melaka had proved to be fruitful as while walking to explore the historical town, I had found a street where all wholesalers of all kinds of goods are located. It is a shopping heaven for me as I had bought goods at prices that are very reasonable and considerably cheap compared from retail price that I found in other commercialised shops. The wholesalers are also very friendly and helpful as to giving useful advise on the usage and care on the goods purchased.

We find that Malacca generally can be visited within a day cos' of it's lack of many tourist attractions adn all its available attractions are mostly clustered together. We went to Portugese Settlement and it really turns us off. The place looks horrible just like a forgotten or abandoned village. Taxi is so expensive taken in consideration that taxi ride generally cost RM5 in KL.
Furnishings have to be done on some tourist attractions. It seem so pathetic that Malacca only have a few decent shopping mall like Makota Parade.
