Shopping centres : DC Mall & Mega Mall are the bigger ones. Haircut + color (long hair) + mani + pedi is only SGD46 at Johnny Andrean.

This hotel has a great location. You can reach a lot of places just by walking...like Raffles City, Clarke and Boat Quay, Suntec has a free shuttle bus that stops by the City Hall MRT station which is only 1 block away. Orchard Road is only 3 stations away. If you're really into shopping then there are a whole bunch of shops right around the hotel and FUNAN IT Mall is right behind the hotel. The Merlion is a bit far but still reachable by walking if you're not in a hurry. I even got to the hotel from the airport by taking the MRT and it only cost me $1.40.

I was fortunate to have a good local friend to show me around. I must say 3 to 4 days in singapore is more than enough. I practically saw most singapore in 3 days.
But a few places that most should not miss out when they're in Singapore are
1) the night safari
2) drinks at boat quay or clarke quay
3) a visit to the merlion statue
4) a stroll down orchard road if shopping is your thing
- (try to avoid to have the singapore sling at raffles hotel, most other local bars offer that drink if you really want to try it)
Be safe and have fun all!!

Get a pamphlet from East Tours to get a pretty good idea of what's on offer. The City Tour is great if it is your first time in Singapore, it orients you to everything. I went on the Kukup and Orchid Farm all day Tour and had a ball. Batik factory and pewter included, not as good as the big places in Singapore, but anything you buy in Kukup is a steal. I am wearing a lovely soft pair of trews, cost SG9.00, how can you go wrong! And the fish meal was to die for..crab, prawns, whole fish, chicken, vegetables etc etc. A good day.

Singapore is the place to go if you want to buy electronics, although be warned, many products such as notebook computers have a different spec to those in USA or Europe, and features advertised on US websites may not be available in Singapore. The birdpark at Jurong is worth visiting for an amazing array of birds from all climates around the world.

Orchard Road was not my cup of tea: just a string of large shopping malls, similar to what we have in Australia. On the advice of some locals, I shopped for an iPod at Sim Lim Square; I recommend it as the place to shop for consumer electronic gear.

A great introduction to Singapore is the arrival...Changi airport is a city-within-a-city! And the prices are not much higher than downtown. There's even a free internet kiosk at McDonald's! Local calls are free and there are lots of other free internet access points.
A city that never sleeps! Even in Little India you can shop at Mustafa's department-store or have a meal and refreshment at 3-am! Buses and underground trains (MRT) are cheap and plentiful! Taxi's are reasonablt priced (SGD$2.40 flag-fall and $0.10/100meters).
One of the cheapest areas to get 'real' 22-24k gold jewellery is in Little India. We found one shop offering at SGD$22/gram for 22k. Computers and other IT items are plentiful at Sim Lim Square...but...I found the best variety and best deals for the latest models at FUNAN IT Center on North Bridge Road. The 'ambiance' is also much better (less crowded, less hassles, good food shops).
For money-changing, I suggest only deal with licenced outlets. Mustfa's on Serangoon Rd in Little India offers some of the best rates and is open 24-hrs. The ONLY place to get 'pirate' you-know-what is in Johore Bahru(Malaysia) which is easy to get to by bus on a day-trip costing $1.90 to 2.40 each way). Pick-up the bus a few blocks from Bugis Street MRT station. The JB-Express at $2.40 is recommended as it is Air-conditioned and doesn't make any stops. Once across the bridge and out of customs, just walk about 8 blocks to City Plaza (clothes, shoes, DVD/VCD's, Software, music). DO NOT TAKE A TAXI from anywhere near customs unless you want to be ripped-off! Make sure that you get some Malaysian-money BEFORE going, as I found the exchange rate much better in Singapore for Malaysian Ringgets.

If you are here a few days get an EZ link card for bus and MRT travel, MRT very efficient and cheap, not that cabs are dear though. If you want perfume get a few prices first then go to Jasina cosmetics in High Street Centre on North Bridge road. Not a place you would normally look for a perfume shop but but best prices (and I've checked dozens of places).

Batam Island is full of great nightlife and places to eat. Relaxed people and way of life. Bought many DVD movies for my collection at home. Shopping is good at Lucky and Centrepoint malls which are very close to downtown Nagoya. If you want real Indonesian experience go to the Pacifico Disco. It's open late and full of people, loud music and very dark. Lots of taxis and motorcycles to take you around town.

There was only one goal for us when we went to Singapore for a stopover, to get hold of the latest on mobile phones and digital cameras. Lucky Plaza on Orchard Road is where we were able to spot our new gadgets. As long as you're prepared to ask and haggle with every single shops there, you'll be able get a very very good deal indeed!
